Sunday School!

Sunday School was fun - even though there were only 4 of them. We talked about worry, sharing burdens, and working together. This included making worry stones, and playing a game that involved crossing the floor standing on a sheet of newspaper - so much easier if two of you share two pieces... and they ate biscuits, drank juice, and generally ( Read more... )

I had to squelch my first "Oh my, Sunday School in these times??" reaction by remembering your isle is covid free at the moment. I'm glad you have some normalcy.

I'm looking for any reason not to use the oven this week--we'll have temps in the 90Fs and high humidity, very much "keep the lights dim and the shades on the west side drawn and for heaven's sake don't make anything hot" weather.

I know! We are in a sort of weird place - so much is absolutely normal, but a lot of us still take precautions almost automatically - so we tend not to sit quite next to each other, or stand quite so close as we would have done six months ago.

And then our TV comes from the UK, and each individual UK country is doing its own thing, depending on their own circumstances. So there will be pictures of people in crowded bars in England, then an announcement that non-essential shops are about to open in Scotland, people in Wales may begin to travel more than 5 miles from home and their cafes and pubs may now offer outdoor seating and service, and Northern Ireland are opening beauty parlours today and will allow indoor weddings from July 10th.

Currently they are now at the point where there were only 15 deaths from the virus in England since Saturday and none in Scotland, Wales or N Ireland - but certainly not caught up to us yet.

The Austrian - first they've been able to hold all season; all the pit-crews and pit-lane wall crews wearing masks unless they had their full face helmets on, no crowd, and no face to face interviews with the drivers, made it a bit strange. Almost-grandson Seb will be happy it's back - he is named after Sebastian Vettel :)

Egg custard is my favourite desert in all the world...although I do prefer mine with a sprinkle of nutmeg. See, I have the nutmeg and eggs, but cannot buy flour for love or money.

We have no trouble getting flour - I think the availability of locally produced stuff took the pressure off the amount of Be-ro or McDougals the shops could obtain, so apart from the firs week r so of lockdown we have had flour. I must remember to get nutmeg for next time, although it is still rather good :)

Yum, that tart looks very yummy (and I'm not a fan of nutmeg, so even better). and that pasta! Yum! It sounds like you had a great group for your bible study. :D

It came out well - we had some with our afternoon cup of coffee.

The pasta is such an easy thing - but with a good flavour balance so that it is really moreish.

The children who come enjoy 'Sunday School' - although if I told them it was really a Bible Study class they would be most surprised :)

I'm doing a sort of Pasta Arrabiata tonight. Can't wait. Nothing beats a good pasta dish.

It's good to be less heavy handed about it and make it something they enjoy (and then learn stuff when they aren't expecting it). :D

Supper looks delicious - you could cover the tart with caramel and have a fake creme brulee or fake creme caramel. Though I'm sure it's just as good without.

Poor sparrows! Suet seems a funny thing to have a shortage of. Is there a beef shortage in general or just the suet?

A traditional custard tart simply has a small sprinkle of nutmeg on the top - but it tasted fine without, just with the vanilla custard. I must admit I hadn't thought of a crème brulée tart - that is a good thought for another day.

We don't have a beef shortage, but then most of our beef is local - but there are problems in meat processing plants all over the place, so perhaps that's why as I would guess the bird ball manufacturers come low on the list for supplies :)
