Bus trip!

Jul 01, 2020 23:12

Today I ventured out on the bus for the first time since early March - and it was fine. The route has changed because of major road works, but at least I now know what route it takes. I went especially to call in at our little Christian bookshop where I volunteer, to get up to speed with the changes the manager has made, and also to be brought ( Read more... )

I hope they have a safe trip.

Pretty flowers.

I think they will be very careful - Andrew is sure he has a genetic predisposition to be very ill if he gets it - his father and one uncle died, his other paternal uncle spent a month in ICU and is still recovering...

That clematis is one of my favourites.

The purple clematis is stunning. They are such dressy flowers!

I'm glad your young manage and husband got the compassionate grounds permission. I often think about people who are far from their loved ones and haven't been able to be with them when they die from this awful virus. So much sadness.

They really are dressy.

Andrew's dad died at the height of the disease in England. His sister was also in ICU. There was no funeral as such, but a video link :( The family decided to all have their own, individual, outdoors moment at the same time and remember they were all together. So hard for them. Andrew and his mother will be relieved to see each other at last.

I'm so glad there's allowances for compassionate travel.

This is an online ordering service covering a large number of publishers, not actually a large number of pubs :)

And here I thought you were celebrate everything opening up by going on a pub crawl!

The compassionate travel system requires people to apply by filling in a lot of paperwork which say where and when they plan to go, when they wish to return, and that they agree to be legally required to quarantine on return. Then they are basically allocated a place on either a flight or a sailing, depending on their preference.

I know - Pubeasy sounds so much more fun than it is!

Gorgeous!

If they simply went, without applying for it to be classed as a compassionate visit, they would not be allowed to return as they wouldn't have the paperwork to show they had understood and agreed to isolate in advance.

No wonder your island is doing so well; the authorities aren't afraid to make hard choices.

The government have been tough about comings and goings - and they have about 90% of the population supporting them so it generally is working.

Our first step to opening up a little is to allow travel between our island and Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, as their government did much the same as ours and is also covid-free - we will see how it goes!

I still like the thought that 'Pubeasy' is a simple way to access the pub remotely! :)
