Leslie's Funeral

Apr 05, 2017 19:58

I was at a funeral today. Leslie Guthrie was our minister at church for many years - he had been there for a couple of years before I returned to the island in 1988 and remained until he retired in January 2009 ( Read more... )

How lovely, you got a final 'tip o' the hat' from your friend.

Leslie sounds like he was much loved...I like the idea of his hat being on the coffin and it's a pity no one thought of it. And it was surely a sign you saw a man in an identical hat.
:)
It's good to hear your mum is improving. What is her diagnosis?

I think Jean would have been very touched by the number of people who came to the funeral.

As for Mum - she had a flare-up of her gout in her feet, accompanied by cellulitis in both feet, possibly related. So her feet were very, very, painful, and she could hardly stand on them. This seemed to exacerbate her arthritis - so her knees also stopped taking her weight... a perfect storm situation to 'go off her feet'.

But by today the pain is less, although she can't lock her knees properly so can't stand or walk properly. But she is improving.

Yes, I remember you mentioning the cellulitis as a factor. So painful, as is the gout and to have both happen at once must be excruciating. Sending well-wishes for your mum!

A 'good' funeral, one that celebrates life. A pity about the hat though.

Good to see your mum is improving, she will be back on her feet soon.

Had the hat been on the coffin it would have made a lot of us smile - but doubtless not everyone so perhaps it was just as well :)

I reckon Mum will be at least another wee before she can go home - but in herself she is pretty good now.

It was a really good service - he was a good man; not a saint by any means, but a good man.

He will be missed in so many different places; although he retired from the full time ministry he was still such an active person, involved with so many things.

Mum looks much better, but is still having problems getting onto her feet so I think she will be a few more days at least in hospital.
