For us it was the perfect way to celebrate - we aren't big party people, but steam and silver service for a silver wedding was really good. But we were so pleased to get back on board by then.

What a Lucullian spread! Everything looks delicious and perfectly cooked.

Glad to see that both of you had a wonderful time.

It was very much mass catering - for four dining carriages each with 36 people - all done from a small kitchen swaying with the train. But it was all piping hot and well cooked. Very impressive. And such a lovely mixture of food, scenery, and steam engines.

Believe me - despite the enormous breakfast and the 'light' lunch, by 8pm I was very hungry! But it was such a fun way to have dinner.

I love your "culinary" posts. :) I'm not sure I'd actually like any of those things (except the strawberry gateau and the chocolates at the end) but they sure are pretty to look at!

It was very much mass catering - but really quite acceptable.

Actually they asked in the morning whether everyone was happy with the dinner menu - and there were a number of plates of vegetarian lasagne and roast chicken dinners being eaten as well as the roast lamb. Most impressive, really.

It really was. Slightly 'school dinner' food - but beautifully cooked for over 100 people in a kitchen in a railway carriage, it was most impressive. And tasty. Recommend it as a really good day out to anyone - you'll have to see what they do in your part of the country.
