I agree it is difficult to decide what effect this would have on Boromir when the ring tempted him - I have a scrap, written down in a note-book, where he resists it because it offers him something a little different because he has a son, and he sees through it.
But he could as easily end up dead at exactly the same point of the story...
Faramir's reaction to Frodo would probably still be to send him on his way unharmed, but his relationship with his father might have been a little different if there was another heir from the loins of the ‘most masculine of perfect sons’Théodred - would he have fought even harder at the Ford to protect not only his father's people but also his lover's son? Or would the existence of such a lover make him more caring of his own survival
