What's so special about Sprinkles?

May 08, 2008 14:17

I admit, the Sprinkles cupcakes (such as the cupcakes in my icon) intrigue me. I've never had one (I don't live anywhere close to CA), but I do hope to try them someday. Until that day comes, in the meantime I'm wondering - what's so special about them? Do they taste different? How do they make the icing look so perfect? Does anyone have any ( Read more... )

They are hit and miss with me. Sometimes really good and sometimes dry. Martha Stewart has their strawberry cupcake recipe on her website. I've made it twice and I didn't like it both times... but maybe I did something wrong.

After seeing Pete Wentz rave about them on an episode of Cribs, I wondered why they were so good, but if you say they're hit or miss, maybe he's just biased? I don't know. Thanks for your input!

The red velvet is usually really good. The vanilla for me is dry. I've tried others but I can't remember how they were. Pete Wentz isn't a cupcake expert like we are though, you know? Plus they're like $3 or $4 per cupcake, which I think is a little ridic.

You probably didn't do something wrong. I read the comments to the recipe. Some people didn't like the recipe.

They're gross? That bad? Really? Hmmmm well thank you for your input. I still want to try one, but now I'm thinking maybe they're more about hype than taste.

My mom got me a box of mix (pumpkin)... I'll try cutting down on the butter and see if it's any good.

Oh, I work there too!! I love it!! It is my part time job. I love the Pumpkin, but it is only seasonal. I have one bag left. I don't know how I would feel about the Chai. You have to spot on when it comes to those spices or it is just yuck. And to spend 14 or so for a mix....

I've never heard of them (obviously experienced their cupcakes) but on quick google search I found this recipe

http://www.oprah.com/foodhome/food/recipes/200602/food_20060201_frosting.jhtml

Their frosting looks really smooth. I am curious how good the recipe is though. Don't know if this helps...but best of luck on your search.

Yeah maybe it's the appearance that I'm liking. They're just so pretty. I need to perfect mine and make them pretty I guess. I can tell the difference between a twinkie and a good cake, lol. It's funny that you say you can't though =D

I tried their coconut cupcake. It was ok. I thought it was a bit dense. I can see why. They probably over mix since they make a lot. One cupcake is about $3.25 or $3.50. The line is always long which means waiting a long time.

I think it's just good advertising and marketing. They have all the celebs gushing over their cupcakes.

You can save yourself the trouble and make your own cupcakes. You save time and money. lol

That's a lot for a single cupcake. I'm sure a lot of the markup is the price of the box/packaging, which I admit is really pretty and makes me want one. It's all about the presentation, I suppose.
