I didn't add nuts or chocolate chips. I used all AP flour I added WAY more spice. probably 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp fresh nutmeg, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/4 tsp cloves, and a few shakes of allspice.
Also this recipe isn't sweet enough. You need to add either more honey, (1/2 cup is good) or use sugar. You can also sub all sugar for the honey.
For the frosting I used 1 container cream cheese(8 oz), softened, and 1 stick of butter softened, alot of powdered sugar, maybe 5 cups? enough to get to the consistency you like. A few pinches of salt, and pure maple syrup (about 1/4 cup) and 2 tsp(or to taste) maple extract, or maple flavoring . Beat it all in a kitchenaid, or with a hand mixer.
I had already made the cupcakes so wasn't able to use that recipe, but I did use your maple cream cheese recipe and added a dash of cinnamon also, since it was SO sweet with all of that sugar and syrup. It's wonderful, thanks!
