I have the exact same feelings about The Ice Storm.

Are you interested in an ebook version of Under Heaven? I'm still waiting for my ordered copy to show up (hmph) but I've been making do with electrons in the meantime.

I'm still making decisions on where I'm going to buy it from - possibly Fishpond - and I think I'd prefer to wait. I'm doing all my reading hardcopy well away from the computer these days. Also, anticipation is half the joy. *G* But thank you!

I must admit the Sarantine Mosaic burned me badly on Kay, to the point that I was very slow reading his England book and Ysabel, but the idea of him doing China interests me a lot. (And yes I am working slowly on that application!)

Saratine grew on me - the opening was slow, but I loved the big finish. But Last Light was definitely something I was unsure about. That and the real-world setting of Ysabel were why I waited so long on it - and I got it from the library; probably won't be buying my own copy. China, though, is one of my favourite storytelling inspirations in the world. I'm a tiny bit terrified that this one will underwhelm me like Last Light, but mostly I have faith that GGK+Tang can't miss. Fingers crossed.

(And YAY! *beams and claps hands* I hear Jen was more successful than I in finding primer/intro material. Still totally available if you want to talk more or whatever.)

Icon love!

Last Light I was unsure about because I'd had such a time with the Sarantine books. But it's GGK and early England, which I react to about the same way you react to about him and China. Now I'm having the urge to reread it when I finish the Paris flood book I'm currently working on which is not at all rp-related, no it's not.

I have the history and personality outlined for the app. It's mostly a matter of writing and editing it and getting all the flourishes I want. This week has been (and continues to be) hellishly distracting, so I'm poking at it a bit at a time. When and if I run into something I want to thrash out, though, I'll definitely grab you.

They could still do Get on the Snake & Full On Kevin's Mom & I'd be cool with that. But you're right, the early material wasn't grunge (i.e, anything from Ultramega OK). They didn't really start to dig into that sound until Louder Than Love, because that's when they started getting more into the metal/goth fusion that, to me, always defined what grunge really was.

I think we were listening to Screaming Life/Fopp when I was boggling about the sound, but Ultramega OK yes as well. The Male has a theory that it's all about drums, and it's an important part, but the sticky guitar noise is important too.

*gets on getting those songs up*

I think the Male has a point about the heaviness of the drums being a factor, but you're mostly right in that it's really about the guitar. That's really what makes the grunge sound.

Dude, yes to the PoP thing. I left that movie like, "Well just because they reset it doesn't change the fact that . . . " and "Now that they reset it technically this little bit of character development didn't technically happen . . . " and ffffffffff. I DON'T WANT TO WRITE MORE FOR THIS FANDOM.

YES! Man, I sat there in a happy glow for approximately 25 seconds of the credits, and then went, "...BUT HANG ON!"

I went to see it again last night (though in my defense, my two viewings add up to about the cost of one normal ticket) and oh yeah, there will definitely be fic. Might touch on a few of the themes your wonderful piece did, but dammit, they're good themes! *G*

RITE MOAR OMG! ...Actually, that said, all I honestly want to write about is the crazy reset situation, and maybe the story of how Dastan came to be leading a battle group of slum rabble. I'm not sure how many stories there are to tell in this universe, given they retconned two-thirds of our canon in the course of it. LOL
