I just read Under Heaven, and it good, but not as good as Tigana, for example. The hero and his sister are so perfect, it makes my jaw hurt a little. Also, Ysabel was basically two self-inserts, him and his son, and right now I can't read about teenage boys.

I wish I could squee more, but all my fanfic reading and general dyspepsia have me down.

What's particularly fascinating about GGK is how people have different favourites. Tigana, for instance, is not one of my favourites. It's good, but in my opinion not Song-for-Arbonne-good or Lions-of-AlRassan-good. So there's a wide range of style somehow. And I'm a little worried that I'm so fond of ancient China that GGK will fall flat. We'll see, I guess. (You're not missing out on anything solid-gold with Ysabel. It was a little YA for my tastes, a little simplistic. Then again, see just-made point about different GGK strokes for different folks. *G*)

Good point! Reminds me that I prefer his books with as many POV characters as possible.

I read Ysabel, I bought it hardback, perhaps the cost made me more negative than otherwise.
