Is there anything more decadent than snacking on banana dipped in melted chocolate? (nomnomnom)

Does Torchwood fandom have the best timetravel and time paradox stories ever, or what? (do not tell me Dr Who is better -- I don't have time to read in that fandom ( Read more... )

You've read Get loved, make more, try to stay alive by dsudis, right? Not Jack, but Ianto mpreg, sort of? I've never seen the show, and don't read in the fandom, and this had me riveted (and crying, but in the good way). Amazing writing, amazing structure. It's been recced all over the place, so you probably know of it.

*crosses fingers for your writing mojo to grace sga* It's funny, I already had a plan to read your bracelet fic tonight. It's just somehow perfect for what I need: the canon guys, acting in character, with a credible happy ending.:) I'm emotionally pretty raw about sga ending -- it's just, it seems like just when I *finally* actually participate, live, in a t.v. fandom, it...goes off the air. I'm sad -- I love the characters so very, very much. However, my head is definitely swarming with writing ideas. Right at the moment, I'm sort of buzzing around between them without much purpose, but...

Corporate Canadian kidfic McShep?!?!?! Bring it on!

I have, indeed, read Get Loved, and loved it. In fact, I might go and re-read it right now. (If you're curious, my Torchwood recs are on rec_room)

I feel your pain about SGA ending. I keep thinking I'm over it, and then realise that I'm really not. In a funny way, it's not the show ending that bothers me, so much as how it's ended -- because so many of the choices seem to have (at least temporarily) killed off the fandom. And given how vibrant and amazing the fandom has been, that's a real achievement on the part of the PTB! I want to keep telling myself stories about the team, and give John his happy ending. They have been part of my mental landscape for so long and I love them so. But the sadness just seeps in and then I feel I need to address it in any story I start, and then I don't want to write it ( ... )

Have you seen We Happy Few?

Also, thank you for the link to Redefining Protocol, because adult AUs are much happier for me. It's romance turned sideways and fluted along the edges, and I <3 it.

No! I haven't seen We Happy Few yet. *opens a tab* Thanks for the link, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

And you're very welcome -- Redefining Protocol is too good not to share! I know just what you mean about adult romances too. I think that's why I'm enjoying Torchwood so mauch. A canon 150+ year old omnisexual... it's hard to get more adult than that, although the fanfic tries. My god, the teen emo stories are painful, and there are so many. But the good stories are melt-your-brain awesome, especially if you're someone with a timetravel kink, like me.

You seriously tempt me into watching and reading Torchwood. Also, I need to read that Merlin AU, despite not having watched any Merlin.

You... you... enabler.

Heee. Being an enabler is something that makes me very happy. I think I shall post a "beginner's guide to Torchwood" now. :)

s it just me, or do you get a jittery Chistmas-morning feeling when you imagine the next episode of [info]rageprufrock's Merlin AU, Redefining Protocol?

It is NOT just you. I get stupidly excited.

Also, have you read franticsga's Be Resigned?

DAMMIT I wasn't going to read AUs in this fandom because the canon is so rich! See how well that turned out?

I have read the first few chapters of Be Resigned, and they were great (franticga always does interesting work)... but kind of depressing, so I've stopped for now. I may go back and glut myself on the series once it's done.

Right now, I'm mainly doing happy fluff, or happy action/adventure, or happy romance. I don't have the internal fortitude for angst or horror marathons.

I kind of like AUs, although I didn't always think so. I mean, there are always poorly done ones, and until I'd read some good ones, that flavoured my view; but when they are good, they can say really interesting things about the source, as well as open the characters up in whole new ways. I tend to like them more once canon has been explored for a while, but I've been doing fandom for so long now, that I'm happy to try them much earlier in my fannish progression.

Yes, I agree it's not very cheerful (the latest chapter had some very depressing parts) but I think she has a wonderful relationship between them.

There are a surpisingly high number of happy fics in this fandom, it seems (not that that's bad, but I expected more angsty ones) - I hope you are finding some great ones. I enjoyed your recs on crack_van. You had some I hadn't read :)

I've always read them but yes, now that I think about it, mostly later on in the fandom when people are looking for new ideas to explore. I guess I wasn't expecting so many so early on in this fandom (but I suppose that's partly due to the fact that I find the legends so interesting and am more inclined to explore in that direction - which doesn't mean everyone feels the same).

W-What did they do to John? *gulps*

"corporate Canadian kidfic McShep story"
Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I managed to re-find my fanfic writing mojo just recently! I set myself a challenge of writing something new every day in January, and while this has fallen by the wayside with starting work again, I did suddenly remember how much fun writing fanfic is. *happysigh*

I think I need to start reading your TW recs. I have always found the fandom a little daunting (especially since I've only ever seen the pilot episode of the show), but you have good taste and it seems to have sucked in some good authors.

Don't worry, they didn't really do anything to John. It's just that, the rest of the team get the kind of character development that makes you think there's a happy ending ahead (Rodney with Jennifer, Teyla and her family, Ronon being ready to start living again). And John? He's just kind of left as the lone wolf member of the team. Which I can understand in terms of him being the hero yadda yadda, but it makes me so sad.

I keep thinking I should re-institute story time. I used to love it, but making it an official thing that I'd have to do on a regular basis kind of sucks the joy out of it. But I did love telling IM versions of my latest story.

Yay! I'm so glad! It's such a great feeling, isn't it? I can't wait for that spark to hit again.

As for Towrchwood, I think I'm going to do a "beginner's guide" as it really is a lot of fun!

Does he at least get to stay with his one true love, Atlantis? (Alternatively, things that fly.)
... sorry, one of the prompts I worked off last week was "the language of cities", so I just had to write a sappy love story about John and Atlantis.

Anyway, yes, that is sad. I thought being the hero meant you would get the happy ending!

Merlin is kind of frightening me because I have started two fics that are already over 3,000 words each, and I haven't written fanfic over 3,000 words since 2002!

I look forward to the Torchwood guide!
