A few years ago, I was talking with one of my buddies about slash, and she said that she goes through stages: when she first falls in love with a fandom, she craves first-time fics, and then after a while, she wants established relationship fics. I gave her the googly eyes upon hearing this, because I've always wanted first-time fics, and I couldn'

*squints* I can see a one-off thing, but Pepper is far too sane to go with Tony long-term, even with Steve as a mediating force. However, a one-time Tony/Pepper/Steve thing would be insanely hot, especially if they invited Rhodey along.
... Okay, now someone has to write that OT4 before I explode.

Meanwhile, Rhodey and Tony would start discussing the armor/things that explode/flying during sex, until Steve got sick of it and stomped off to sulk and have "that-will-show-Tony-hah!" sex with Pepper that he'll feel horribly guilty for in the morning.
That would be in movie-continuity. Canon!Pepper would of course go off with Happy Hogan.

I think I always love a good first time story because there's often a really identifiable pay off in it. You can get swept up with the characters so that when they have their MOMENT it's a huge rush for you as well.
But established relationships have a different kind of comfort to them - whether it's "we're past the first time bit, but now there's all this other relationship crap to work through (namely, you are a middle-aged cop and I am a 20-something geek on the FBI's wanted list)" or curtain fic, where as a reader you can settle down into the warm fuzzy domesticity like a doona.
Weddingfic still makes me a bit squirmy, but I can't tell if it's one step too far on the schmoop scale for me or if it is PINGING my schmoop kink big time. Soul bonding, oh man, I'm there all the way! :D Supernatural was good for that, what with being in a universe of psychicness etc

What has changed for me over time is that I've pruned the list of what I'm willing to read. When I first got in to SGA fandom, I read just about everything; every slash pairing, orgies, most het stuff with Rodney in it, deathfic, etc. was devoured by me in a glorious frenzy of reading. Now, not so much. Now I only read Teyla/Rodney or John/Rodney and no deathfic darkens my doorstep because I've decided that fanfic is my happy place and deathfic is not a happy place most days.
