What bothered me about him leaving is just what you said here - this old life was one he wanted to forget and leave in the past. Now he's living it again for a whole year.
And of course she will get to Indonesia and realize that the shiny is gone without him to share it with.
I love them, but I wouldn't mind if they were completely miserable without each other :)

I know, right? I think it might kill me if we find out they didn't miss each other or something awful like that. I don't think that'll happen, but the uncertainty over next season scares me!
I wonder if Booth, being a good Catholic boy, would see his decision as some sort of self inflicted penance?
The world away from each other in your fic is beautifully realised in the way they parallel each other. They are capable intelligent people doing what they believe they have to do and you have captured the doubt they both feel that now it is not enough.
Yes. Misery. Exactly. cuz this was a reaallly bad idea guys! (Yes I am yelling at BB instead of directly commenting on ur fic. My apologies). I think the biggest shocker for me was Bren bein so upset she threw up. Poor baby. But yea...I agree....it's gonna be a looooooooooonnng year.
You may not have had plans to write a post-ep fic, but I'm so glad that you did!
I love the bookended feel of this fic - the thoughts of B&B as they settle into their new temporary lives without each other.
Brennan - I love the way she's missing Booth. We expect Booth is miss Brennan but I love that the lack of him is really affecting her. But under that is the understanding that she was holding him back, so what she's done is as much for him as for her.
But it's this that really gets me: It’s only at the end of the day that she feels it. It’s like losing a limb. Sometimes your body doesn’t realize you’ve lost something until your brain catches up. The sudden shock of knowing that something is missing has her scrambling for the nearest foliage. By the time she’s emptied the contents of her stomach on the jungle floor, she feels the crushing weight of the decision she’s made.To be so affected emotionally that it affects her physically... wow. Very nicely written

I think that's the overall theme of this season, that they each hold the other in such high regard that they're willing to sacrifice their own happiness for the other. It's beautifully tragic, since we know that they are what will make each other happy. I'm really hoping the time apart will make them finally see this (although I don't think the writers will make it so simple!).
Poor Booth is right! He's got such a deep sense of duty and honor, which makes him so heartbreakingly sweet. A lesser man would not have waited for Brennan for so long, or let her go like he did. Oh, poor Booth.
Thank you for the lovely comments, m'dear. I'm so glad you liked this!

Only 364 days to go. Can't be over soon enough.

Amen! I'm really excited about the possibilities for next season, but the wait to find out what happens next is going to kill me!
