The Holy Mountain, originally released in 1973, is my first taste of the film-making world of Alejandro Jodorowsky and I think it’s safe to say that Jodorowsky is not for me. ( more behind cut )

Jodorowsky may be heavy-handed at times, but I definitely wouldn't say he's undisciplined in his approach. Listening to his commentaries and reading many interviews with him reveals a tremendous amount of reasoning and thought behind every shot. I admit that the Holy Mountain is by far the most extreme of his films; I recommend you see Santa Sangre (1989) to give him another chance from an almost completely different angle. That film is usually very appreciated by people turned off by his earlier work, and it works as a much more accessible, more subtle film that's stronger on plot and character development.
