[meta] The Poetry of Dean and Cas (a manifesto of sorts)

May 28, 2011 18:57

I know Castiel and the Dean/Cas fandom have been torn up between rage and disappointment for days now and some have been more emotional than most. And others have abandoned ship, and we've been bickering on whose fault it was that things changed. There are those who also felt that the ship's sinking. The thing is, this ship will never sink for as ( Read more... )

Wow. I honestly thought I wouldn't read all of it, but once I started, I couldn't. There was so many things to think about, and so many things to take into context, and the farther I read, the more these things showed up.

This was honestly really thought out, and well explained in a way that even I, who has not seen each and every episode of Supernatural could understand. I loved that you did this, and how you didn't try to make things up, but instead use what you've seen and make sense of it. There's the whole thing with Sam being Dean's main thing which you've acknowledged, instead of brushing off like so many people do in regards to Dean/Castiel.

I appreciate the time and effort you went to do this, so yeah. Go you! :D

Thank you for going through all that! It wasn't really short and I wrote them 3 separate days (1 song each), so I'm actually pretty glad everything came together and engaging enough to sit through.

This whole thing is actually more calm than what I've been in the past few days. I practically ranted my heart out before I wrote this. lol Good move to vent out all the emotions first, then sit through this, I think.

I can't ignore Sam as Dean's priority 1. He'll have a lover, friends, whoever else in his life but Sam will always be his first choice. Perhaps the only other person to battle Sam on that pedestal would be Dean's son (not necessarily Ben). The same argument would then apply to Sam, because Sam would never attempt to compete with Dean's son. If it came down to a choice to save, Sam would tell Dean to shut up and save his son.

Thanks again!

Erm... wow.
You know, I'm afraid, I can't tell you with how much of this I agree or don't agree. Not yet, anyway. Too many thoughts and too many emotions, still. But I can tell you that your words touched me, and made me think, and see new aspects of this tragedy between two characters who I believe may love each other too much.

So thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this, and for doing it so eloquently.

Thank you for reading through all of it! It wasn't an easy task, I know. :3

Honestly? Once I started reading, stopping would have been the really difficult task.

Yes, I made it to the end.

I really enjoyed it. I thought you raised some really interesting points. And I think you can definitely include Eros because I think while their is a lack of physical intimacy between them, there is plenty of emotional intimacy there.

Thank you!

I was hesitant at using Eros mainly because it's always been used to just highlight the sexual tension and then hammer down the "They're so in love!" argument, which I didn't want. I ship Destiel and love it, but if I'm about to defend it, I want my arguments to be roped together by logic and proof that leaves very little room for misinterpretation as much as possible. :3

Although you're right, what they lack in physical intimacy (but I demand... it is now a DEMAND.. a hug between them before S7 ends), they make up for in emotional intimacy.

Thank you for reading! I'm glad you sat through this, which not a lot of people would since it wans't really that short.

I didn't actually consider Cas as "evil" when I titled him as Dean's Antihero in this manifesto. The antihero doesn't have to be evil all the time, either, but it's the status quo for most stories. That we'll get the hero, and then we'll meet his greatest enemy who will be this evil evil man. Because of how it ended in S6 and Dean's always the hero (along with Sam) in Supernatural, Cas had the unfortunate position of either taking Dean's side or face him head on. Hence my titling him the Antihero (and I will stress that he is not evil ---- which I did in several posts in tumblr) as far as S6 went.

Cas is the antithesis, which is probably a better term come to think, to Dean in personality, in principle and now literally in position on this massive chessboard the writers set up.

No, what I'll forever hate is how it was handled! Because the concept is so great, it could have been so good, except it was... botched ( ... )

Wow! This was incredible!

But is this where the story ends? No. This is where the new arc begins: the road to Agape, the meeting of two minds and understanding.

This is my hope for S7 as well but we'll see what happens.

Thanks for reading! :D

I really don't trust the writers as a whole (well ok, I don't trust Gamble mostly because she's leading it and well...S6 had been a real mess), but maybe something good will happen. Edlund is still on board after all.
