Dean vividly remembered his time in Hell and it made for a great storyline. But if Bobby went through anything like that (and remember, time is different in hell--is it that months are centuries?) it should have been mentioned.

Sam's time in Hell has been more or less dropped since Castiel took on his pain. But I can't believe it wouldn't have SOME effect on him. From a storytelling point of view, it's dropping the ball on what was a major character development.

One of the most creative things the show has done has been NOT to show hell. Budget reasons or whatever, hell can be a lot scarier and more symbolic in the viewer's head. Hell was so...easy. Sam has been in worse situations.

Rescuing Cas took "an incursion of angels. Many lives were lost."

Thanks!

The show has never had any money, and I get the time constraints/no budget, etc. But they have done so much better with so much less. I've forgiven a lot of logical "wha"? in past seasons, but this episode was simply too much.

Another explanation: Time changes all things. It changes people and places and well, everything. Just because there's a back door to Hell now doesn't mean there was always one and the writers just put one in for convenience. Crowley made a lot of changes to the place when he took over. We saw where he had people standing in a never-ending line of doom in Season 6. This is NOT what we saw in 8x19, but I believe (and a line Crowley said in the ep about it being "his hell" backs this up) Crowley created the never-ending line of doom. I am sure there are other areas of hell that are...well, hell, but for budgetary reasons I wish they had placed more of the experience in Sam's head ( ... )

I pretty much agree with all of this. I can kind of excuse the non-rescue of Adam because he is in the Cage, not Hell. But Sam strolling through Hell with no demon trying to stop him and no sign of PTSD was too much for me. Plus why did Bobby get the cage 2 doors down from the entrance? It took Meg year (hell time which is no longer hell time, but real time) to claw her way out after Dean and Sam exorcised her and Crowley spent an entire year trying ot find a way into Purgatory. Now you just move a rock and you leave Hell? Really? And Bobby has been in Hell for a year, or 480 months according to Dean and the worst thing that happened to him was seeing Sam and Dean doppelgangers? No rack, no torture, not even a long unending line? And what happened to the long unending line anyway? The rogue reapers bothered me. Dean only getting one piece of pie so that Kevin didn't have any bothered me. He couldn't spring for 2, one for him and one for the guy going nuts and ruining his health to close Hell ( ... )

Yes, Crowley not finding Sam in Crowley's own domain didn't really make sense, but I let that slide.

I did like that Kevin a) hid the tablet (uh-oh) b) freaked and ran away. That made perfect sense, as did the hallucinations of Crowley.

Two points:

#1 Adam is in the cage, not regular hell. So he wasn't really an option.

#2 All the Archangels are either dead or in the cage. No one left to open a can of whooop-ass on prophet's behalf.

But I agree with pretty much everything else. Except I don't mind seeing Bobby back. He was just way too sane for the time spend in there. Or Dean is a wuss in comparison :P

Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Sealtiel, Jegudiel, Barachiel, Jerahmeel. All of whom have different roles. I miss Gabriel. I don't think Uriel was portrayed as an archangel on Show, not if Castiel was his former commander.

Metatron is a scribe, generally not considered an Archangel except in Judaism. Lucifer is also not an Archangel, except here and there.

DUDE! DITTO on every MF thing you said!!! For me it all started sliding down hill when Sams massive PTSD was suddenly handwaved away. After show went out of its way (literally) to tell us that Sam had spent Eons being Lucys bottom bitch...he was suddenly A OK. no lingering ...nothing ( ... )
