You've said all the things I've been thinking. Because arrogance is the other side of a hero complex. And while I think some heroes (like Harry Potter) balance it well and mostly are about protecting other people even if occasionally they think it is all about them. But in Emma's case, she's more often than not much more on the arrogance side (and with much less excuse since in this case it isn't actually all about her, at least not anymore

I agree. Arrogance is the other side to hero complex and it's only balanced IMO when deal with as negative which OUaT hasn't been doing with Emma. This side of the character can make for some juicy characterization if not character development, but when things are glossed over or made out to part of good prefect golden hero it's lost. Character flaws make for character gold but only when deal with.:(
She is very self absorted a lot of time, more so in season three then any other time. It shows a lot in her relationship with Henry and how she acts as co parent. Emma maybe a serious person, but I feel like she's not very mature. She grow up fast due to the foster system but she didn't mature. It's more obvious in moments in Neverland with map, but I think it shows it's self more with selfishness like the second half of season three when she wanted to run away and her character regressed.

I think Emma fears she's not enough on her own. Without being the savior she's just town sheiff, just biological mom who turned up ten years later trying to get to know her son, just the daughter of heroic King and Queen who everyone looks up to. She doesn't see herself as princess, a heir or part of their leadership in that sense without being the savior. She knows she showed up very late to game as parent and has a lot to make up for and if pretty bold face to think she can take over. But without clinging to the idea that she’s the savior, somehow more important, with more right to do what she wants I can’t see her handing things well

She is magically amateur especially to someone like Regina, Cora, Rumpel let alone a progeny like Zelena. All her magic up was born high emotion and coping Regina or following Rumpel instructions or out of her control (true love kiss, blasting Cora away from her heart, smashing lights when angry when arriving in SB, and giving birth to Henry). It wasn't till later when Emma decided to learn magic inorder to run away from town with Henry without his memories did she start to train. Even then she's going to be a amateur for a long time. Looking at it another way she's a amateur to everything FT. There is nothing wrong with Emma being amateur because it's her story IMO. She's berely been in this world a year and while she's accepted a lot of it at the same time she hasn't. She spent four months (according to JMO) in season one not believing in magic, and then about 7 months believing in it before she got her fake memories and forgot it all and went off screen to live for a year. Season 3B was weeks and a few months at the most. Her story

Things with the time travel episode and Maid Marian were the events that did it in for me with Emma. It was pure arrogance which she behaved floored me. Hook warned her about the time line, so it’s not like she didn’t understand and she understood how important it was that HER timeline stayed the same, but everyone else's? She played god and enjoyed it. That is my issue with Emma and Maid Marian and when I bring it up people don't get it. I’m not upset Regina has love rival for Robin now. Though god it’s so contrived. Emma had no right to save Marian. I agree 100% her savior complex was full at work. Fans are behind Emma because it was heroic and good deed, but you know what being a hero is? Making the hard choices. A hero makes the choice best for all not the one that will make her feel like big hero. Great example with Charmed. She hits Marian over the head saying we'll just bring her to the future with huge smile on her face laughing off Hook's rightful concern. You can't get any worse than that. She changes Marian's fate then has
