As someone currently going through a nightmare of house repairs, I don't have words to express how gutted I'd feel if that were me. I really, really hope that their insurance takes care of it and that the disruption of that second period of repairs is... well, as minimal as is possible in the circumstances.
And given that we're still having severe thunderstorms almost daily, just the worry about further damage from water before the work can get done. Their house is kind of oddly shaped (it's a century-old Victorian) with several "little" roof areas that jut out from the second story. They thought one of them was all right--no obvious damage to the shingles/didn't know if the tree had hit it on the way down--but noticed that there seemed to be water damage inside underneath it yesterday.
