♨ Ten Apples and Cinnamon - Voice / Action ♨

[Stay occupied, stay occupied. Desperately Winry's been trying to throw herself so far into her work so that she may forget about everything. Normally this isn't hard, but a handful of things have been weighing heavily on her lately. Between Ed's announcement about Pride, Donatello's odd behavior, and her attempts to ignore the war, this girl has ( Read more... )

[Edward usually goes to the smithy by mid-morning after taking care of food and any household chores, so if Winry's still there, he'll likely see her.]

[Oh, lifesaver. He's really terrible about this "good conversation" business.]

A favour for Sokka. He asked for some armor, and I suggested chainmail for easier mobility. [Which is turning out to be time-consuming. Adding complex designs to plate mail is much easier than chain.]

That looks like it would take a lot of patience. How heavy do you think it'll be once it's done?

Probably close to ten pounds. The weight depends on how the rings are woven together and the size of the shirt.

Oh, and what kind of metal are you using?

Mostly steel. [He gestures to the collection of cut rings on the counter.] The design required a different colour, so I chose bronze for that. [The detail is small right now, but Edward's blending the metals together so the bronze is showing in a circular pattern.]

Beautiful craftsmanship. Did you do stuff like this at your home?

[...W-well.] ...Thank you. One of my duties as Lord Sigmund's follower was to help keep the Force well equipped, so I made good use of my skills there.

['Lord' Sigmund, huh? She wonders if that was the same Sigmund she spoke to last night.]

What else do you work on? Do you have a specialty, or a favorite?

[THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE Hm. Favourite, huh?]

...I like swords.

[...Weapons. Right. She should have figured as much.]

You and Sokka both.

[That one makes him smile a little.]

Perhaps that's why we get along.

What kind of swords do you usually make? [Because apparently there were several kinds. Winry has learned this by simply looking around the smithy.]

All sorts. I prefer broadswords and two-handed greatswords, however. [More material to add pretty, elegant details, ohoho.]

[She's going to assume those are the big ones - considering the big names, and all.]

Are they hard to make? [Because she's seen katanas being made in this smithy, and that looked like a long, arduous process.]

Sometimes, but I find it well worth the effort, particularly when the blade is for someone important. The satisfaction of the one receiving it makes the effort seem minimal.
