[There's a pause of silence as the journal begins to record. Listeners can hear a deep inhale and a following exhale before Winry begins to speak. When she does the girl tries to sound confident, but in all honesty she's scared of what she has to do.]Hey everyone, have you heard of automail yet? It's a state of the art prosthetic limb that is ( Read more... )

The automail works by using a port to convert the electric pulses from the nerves in the body into a useable electrical current to control the wires. Those wires control the basic metal skeleton of the limb.

Not at all! After the patient becomes accustomed to their new limb and has made a full recovery everything works just fine.

[Vash isn't TOO surprised to see this not too long after speaking to Legato again. Even if he's hoping it's for some other reason, he's going to help make that filter perfect. Being the paranoid guy he is and all when it comes to things dealing with Legato.] Tuesday?

Alright. I'll be nearby. [He'll need to decide HOW close. He doesn't need Legato knowing he's around.] You're going to do it at the clinic?

That sounds so mega cool!

I wanna see! How does it work?

It works by using the electrical currents that run through one's nervous system. By attaching a port to convert those currents into one that can be used by wires we can then make those wires control a metal skeleton. After that it's a simple job of applying outer plating for protection and aesthetic appeal.

Mecha... like a robot? [She vaguely remembers the term.]

About Tuesday? [She remembers that old arrangement--but had long since thought that the person in question might have been sent home.]

Yes. I'll be performing Legato's automail surgery then.

Ah, I see. I have to admit, I'm quite curious to see this automail of yours in action. What time would you like me to be there?

The surgery will be happening in the afternoon, so preparing the clinic should probably begin at eleven.

Interesting... This automail technology, how does it work?

The limb is attached to the body of a person and responds to the electrical impulses sent through the nerves. As such it functions as a normal limb, aside from it being made solely out of metal.

I see. And what of magical energies, say, casting a spell by forcing energy through the limb to create a blast?

I'm not sure. We didn't have magic in our world.
