Update on lyme disease

May 28, 2009 12:07

We just got the results back from the bloodwork to check on how Dahlia is doing with the lyme disease. Her numbers have dropped from 253 to 83, a significant drop but still not in the "insignificant" range. However, that being said, since she's not showing any clinical signs, they don't want to put her back on antibiotics. We'll recheck in another ( Read more... )

Poor girl. It's good that the numbers are going down, but with our recent tick insanity...I can't imagine the stress you must be going through! I hope that Dahlia feels better very soon.

If you have her on flea/tick meds, I think the vaccine is unnecessary. Mostly because there are other nasty tick-born illnesses and the vaccine wouldn't protect her from virulent strains of lyme that are harder to treat with antibiotics. I plan to get some flea/tick meds for our Labs during the spring/summer months. Ugh, ticks suck! (nevermind the terrible pun there)

we've had 3 ticks on chase in the last 3 weeks - 2 we found on him today, though they were pretty much in their death throes. prior to this, we had only ever found one on him. in three years. i don't know what's going on or where he's getting them, but i'm not liking it.

There's been a lot of talk about how this year is awful for ticks. They're calling the area around Green Lakes "Ground Zero" for them. It's pretty bad this year -- cases of lyme have hugely increased. I'm hoping Dahlia's flea/tick meds will kill off ticks before they can attach. Just ugh!
