Peter has had an awful rash on his chin since I think September sometime?
Right after his birthday I tried putting him on an elimination diet- no wheat or dairy- for a week. It was going to be two weeks but he managed to get hold of both wheat and dairy on day 7, and I couldn't see starting over with Thanksgiving right around the corner, so we canned it. It didn't seem to be helping him anyway, just making our lives really frustrating.
So then I started thinking maybe it was yeast related, but my breasts aren't irritated and yeasty- surely if it was yeast the constant contact would make my nipples flaky and sore, like with the thrush?
It's a scaly, chapped looking rash, with little whitehead looking pimples that pop up from time to time.
I started thinking, maybe it's a teething rash. Isaac had one for awhile when he was around 18 months and getting his two year molars, and it was similiar, at least the chapped flaky stuff- I don't remember little zits. Peter keeps his fingers in his mouth almost constantly for the last couple of months, and of course he gets drool all around his mouth from that. My other kids have been fairly quick teethers- Abinadi was the slowest and even he got his 2 year molars in right around his birthday. Peter has gotten the bottom two cut through within the last two weeks, but the top two are not showing any signs of revealing themselves yet, and he is still constantly chewing on the fingers. The other kids would have a couple nights of fever and runny nose related to teething and then their teeth would pop out. Not Peter. Constant teething latch for months too. No wonder he is a frustrated 2 year old- mommy won't nurse him often, not only because of pregnancy breasts (sore and not much milk) but because of his awful I'm-getting-my-molars-in latch. Fortunately it's been better, nursing wise, since the bottom two came in.
Whatever it is, he hates having it washed and oiled. I've been putting coconut oil and coconut oil with a bit of lavender on it. When I manage to get it on twice daily (I haven't managed to get it on more than that unfortunately) it does seem to help his rash. But he fights it REALLY hard. We have to hold him down and it is really a two person job.
Anyway, it's not pretty and it shows up as a dirty chin in all his pictures, but I know it will pass.
