The Magnificent Seven pretty much is what made me a western fan. It was also my intro to the slash phenomenon, and the hatred directed towards anything female near male characters that wasn't polite enough to be dead or gone or evil by the end of the episode.

MS was probably my initial introduction to what slash was too. It came at a time that was right around the genesis of people getting into fanfic. I remember a lot of venom being aimed at Chris's woman. Generally the women died obligingly though. I really need to buy the DVDs and meta them now.

Mary. It got a lot worse after season 2 was announced, when one of them was asked what the official stance on Chris/Mary was, and the response was that Chris loved Mary, even if neither one realized it

I sort of loved Chris and Mary, even if I didn't recognize it as an OTP at the time. You just knew they belonged together. Anyway, with the Ezra thing, frankly he was VERY racist and sexist and I never let him off for that, though it doesn't surprise me that most of the fandom did. When I say he was a right bastard I mean it. He might have had the excuse that it was his cultural bias, but that still doesn't make it excusable. What made him redeemable was that he genuinely wasn't malicious at heart, just wrong. The show let him be wrong without making him unforgivable, which is why I liked it

So glad that i could help spark a fond memory for you. The fandom is small these day but very active and Mostly Ezra girls with a few Buck and Vin fans floating around.

And yes it is still heavily slash - but not me stuff. I'll read it but i won't write it.
