I mean overall. And I believe in doing graphics work too. The learning curve is fairly steep I believe, but the scope is grand as far as graphic manipulation goes.
Thanks for the clarification. :) I am rather nervous about the learning curve with the graphics [which is why I've been dragging my feet for so long on doing something about it], but I've finally reached an artistic tipping point.
That all makes sense. See, I've never had to consider things from the graphics standpoint before - being more of a word sort, at least as far as computers are concenred - so I don't really know.
Woohoo, Photoshop! My first instinct is to recommend a mac for any kind of digital art work, but they are considerably more expensive, and honestly, photoshop works just fine on a PC. I'm just totally biased because I'm a mac kind of girl. But really anything that (comfortably) meets the system requirements (here) should serve you well : )
Yeah, this Photoshop thing is totally your fault too. Well, you and turlough. :D
The spousal unit's really pushing for a Mac, as he loves his and I've had a lot of problems with my Dell. I'm concerned about being able to shift files from the PC desktop [among other, prolly easy to solve, things].
Muahaha, aw, I'm so proud! Or something. IDK. Photoshop is fun : D
See, I do love macs. One of the upsides of them, aside from the graphics programmes, is that Apple tends to be really good at fixing things if you do have problems. I recently took mine in for a battery change, which they did for free even though I was slightly outside of warranty (I think 18 months is the standard), and while I was in the Apple store the guy noticed my keyboard surround was a little chipped at one side, so he swapped it for a new one of those too, no charge or anything (: D

I second everyone telling you to get a Mac :-) Also, Macs are actually NOT more expensive than PCs, it's a common misconception but it's no longer true. There are no cheap Macs but compared to PCs with equivalent powers Macs aren't more expensive.
It's a Mac mini. It was either that or an iMac and in the end the Mac mini won because I already had stuff like a mouse and a keyboard and a good screen could be found pretty cheaply.
The first computer I ever bought, back in 1994, was a Mac, but I'd been working on them for several years before that (worked at a student union where Macs where pretty much a requirement back then). So I'm not exactly impartial when it comes to Macs :-)
My current desktop is... close to ten years old? Yeah, that sounds right. And it was a floor model that saw a lot of hard use before that point. The Dell I got four or so years ago and its been a magnet for spyware and a general pain in the ass.
Is a Macbook going to be okay for graphics work? We actually looked at the mini as a possibility, but I think something more portable would work best for me.
Notice how it's all Mac users that are chiming in now? I don't think you need to worry about impartiality.

I say a Mac is one of the better options.
Yes I'm bias since I use Macs. But I've worked photoshop on both pc and mac and find the program works better on a mac.
I do all the videos and stuff for the list and gatherings on a mac.
They are more expensive but in my opinion last longer and easier to use.

Have you checked this page? It was linked in a Mac comm over on DW as a very useful place for finding good, cheap software.

Beyond that, as long as you have enough memory/processing to work with large images I think you should be good.

And yeah, that really is the question I have to ask - thanks for phrasing it simply and well.
