When Sawyer heard the message, he realized he was close to the location. It sounded like this was what happened when people got too close to the barrier, something he was thinking of attempting himself some time soon. With that thought in mind, besides helping the woman, this would be a great opportunity for him to get an idea of what happens.

Sawyer set out down the road. It took awhile to reach her, she was much further out then he had gone before, but soon he saw her laying on the ground.

He hurried over to her and bent down beside her. "Hey," he shook her, "you okay there?" He looked up for a moment, not seeing anything that was actually blocking them. It just looked like the road would continue on.

"Better get you up then." Sawyer lifted her of the ground and into his arms. He started to carry her back towards the castle.

Lainey stirred briefly when Sawyer shook her. Her eyes fluttered open, but she didn't make an effort to move. She was groggy as hell and felt like she'd been drugged. She was unable to make more than a token protest when she was lifted into unfamiliar arms.

'Who're you?' she asked, her words a bit slurred. 'Wh'appened?' She remembered setting out to get out of this place, wherever it was, but she hadn't seen or heard anyone that could've knocked her out. And she had to have been knocked out somehow--right?

"Shh," he calmly said to her and continued to carry her a bit further. Once he felt like he got far enough, he lightly bent down and set her on the ground.

"You alright there?" He looker her over. "Got a message on the phone, saying someone went and fell more or less. Take it you went too far? Trying to leave?" Sawyer wanted to see this first hand, but at the same time, it was a bit scary.

She sat there, a bit hunched over, eyes closed against the sun. 'I'm... disoriented,' she said. 'I... was walking down this road and... I don't know... I'd swear someone hit me over the head, there was no one.

'Yes, I was trying to leave,' she acknowledged. 'I don't understand... there's no fences...' She was extremely confused. 'What happened?' she asked. If he knew she was trying to leave he must have some idea what was going on.

"That it is," he held up his drink to hers to drink to that statement. That was such a true assessment of the world. One that most people just didn't seem to get.

"There was no way to tell. Besides, even if he wasn't really planning to do it, who's to say he wouldn't pull the trigger on accident. If the kid was scared, well you know, fingers can slip. Gotta take care of yourself."

She raised her drink as well, before downing the rest of it. She finally set her glass aside. 'Yep. No way to tell. And no way to tell the people all pissed off about it that I wasn't going to let my partner be shot by a 12 year old delinquent. God forbid that cross their minds. Nope. White cop, minority criminal, who's a kid to boot. Of course they'll support their own.' She rolled her eyes.

"Of course," he joined her in the rolling of eyes. "Even when doin' the right thing, you can still end up the bad guy." Didn't Sawyer know the truth in that. Though, most of the time he really was doing the bad thing, but there was times.

'Yep.' She shifted, getting more comfortable. 'That why you do whatever it was you did? Because you're damned if you do and damned of you don't?'

She could see the appeal. She couldn't see herself becoming a criminal, but she certainly understood the appeal.
