Daisy gave Tara a smile, though she suspected it didn't quite reach her eyes. She was still upset about John's reaction to her concern for him. She was just trying to protect him! (Men!) she thought. (Pride was the surest way she knew to get yourself killed.)

Just then, the female prisoner spoke up, and said, "Glory," to Tara.
Tara went white. Then the woman added, "Willow," and Tara couldn't help but take a step back.
The prisoner went on, in a sing-song voice, "You're just like them... you're just like them... you're just like them." And she smiled like someone who knows an evil secret.
Tara didn't know what to say, this was the first time she had been on the recieving end of the prisoner's power. Glory, the hell-goddess who had smashed her hand and stolen her mind; Willow, her ex-girlfriend who had become so drunk with the power of magic that she had changed Tara's memories to suit her whims. These were what the woman was comparing her to. And maybe she was right.
"N-no," she said, unable to keep her voice calm, "I'm n-n-not like that, no, no."

She was still swamped by guilt, and felt the others should know the truth. Tara said softly, "She is right. Glory... she was a very evil..." she paused, and decided the group wasn't up to hearing about real goddesses yet. "Woman, an evil woman who broke my left hand, and did something to me that left me insane for a while. Willow is my ex-girlfriend, and she wiped my memory in a way that is similar to this spell I'm talking about." She brushed tears away from her eyes quickly, hoping it wasn't too evident ( ... )

Tara's analogy of the island's energy being like an unfamiliar step-mother was amusing. Even as her eyelids started drooping, she thanked Tommy for helping with the spell. "My pleasure," he replied sincerely, recalling the different spirits he'd seen. He wondered if people's spirits were always so diverse, or if it was a consequence of the odd collection of people who'd survived the crash. Then Tara lay down for a nap. "You rest. I'm wide awake, so I'll keep an eye out."

(Of course, I guess, The Doctor is a third option,) Megabyte thought sourly.
But Locke had said that it was Tara and Tommy, so none of it added up. (Unless another telepath has slipped beneath the radar.)

"Magic," Locke replied simply. He almost added that Tara declared herself to be a witch, but decided against it. The word carried negative connotations for many.
Seeing that John's reply wasn't going over well with some of the survivors, Daisy jumped in. "Did you all see the symbol that Tara drew in thin air? Call it what you want -- magic or technology -- but it looked like magic to me. What's important is that it worked."

He heard murmurings around him, other people similarly confused, disbeliefing or just plain amazed.
He thought of Clark's third law, and that seemed the most logical, and he recited it aloud before he could catch himself, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." At the few looks Megabyte received, he shrugged. "I'm a science geek, I'll go for technology any day of the week, because there is no such thing as magic."No such thing as dinosaurs either," Sawyer drawled. "Not that I think it was magic, 'cause as far as I'm concerned, magic involves pullin' rabbits outta hats and makin' the Statue of Liberty disappear ( ... )
