[Daisy] Spells & Speculations (tag Locke, Tara, et al)

Mar 30, 2006 18:13

Daisy gave Tara a smile, though she suspected it didn't quite reach her eyes. She was still upset about John's reaction to her concern for him. She was just trying to protect him! (Men!) she thought. (Pride was the surest way she knew to get yourself killed.)

Rose half smiled at Tara. "I wouldn't worry too much. You have friends here who'll stick by you. Three of them right here."

"Absolutely. And I know Daniel will stand up for you as well. I'm fairly certain Molly will stick by you no matter what, and it looks like John and Daisy will as well." The Doctor tilted his head, a bit too fast and his winced a bit before continuing. "What did you mean by the island's energy felt different? Different how? And after you've eaten and rested up, I'm gonna hound you with questions, you know."

Rose laughed. "Feel honored. It's quite the consideration he isn't houndin' you with them now."

"Yeah, well, I need some recooperation myself." He looked a bit rueful.

Rose seemed to look at him more carefully. She noticed the lines of tension around his eyes and the line beteen his brown not going away. She'd seem him joyous, terrified, in a rage, relaxed, and worried, but this was something else. It looked... "You got a headache?"

"Just a bit. Be better in no time. Just have to find that time." He muttered the last more to himself.

"Right, you have five minutes, mister. You finish up here with Tara and Tommy, then it's straight to the lean-to with you. Get that sorted out." She frowned.

"Yes, mum." He made a face.

Tara smiled at the banter between The Doctor and Rose, although she hid it behind a bite of apple. They were so cute together, it seemed a pity that they weren't a couple. She assumed the alien/human thing had something to do with that. Still, she entertained a moment's happy fantasy of setting up a Bower O Luv for them, as she and Molly had done for Clarice and Daniel. She smiled again at the thought.

She finished the fruit in record time, and accepted a banana from Tommy. Then, as she ate that, she attempted to explain about the energy, although the details were fuzzy to her still.

"The energy from the earth, it's... well, it's hard to explain to someone who doesn't touch the elements. Fire feels a certain way, and water, and so on. Earth has a similarity where-ever you go, a warm, safe, welcoming quality, like your earliest memories of your mother."

She turned to Tommy, "You'll probably come to see this more clearly as you go on, the natural world will develop 'personalities' of a sort."

"But when I was drawing on the islands energy, specifically the earth, it felt different. Not unlike a mother..." she threw up her hands, knowing it was almost impossible to explain. "Like a step-mother, who has different rules, and feeds you weird food, and changes your whole lifestyle." With that she yawned, feeling like her head was going to crack open.

Becoming sleepy now, and not entirely trusting herself to open completely to the earth energy of the island, she knew that rest was the next best thing. "I'm sorry I can't explain better right now, but I'm really glad the spell worked." She turned to Tommy, "And thank you again for helping me, that meant a lot."

Another yawn overtook her, and she lay down again, pulling a thin blanket over her. "I think I'm going to nap for a while, if that's okay?"

However ironic it was that a being as powerful as the Doctor needed a human to help him take care of himself, watching Rose and the alien interact was heartwarming. Tommy wondered if they realized that they acted like a married couple -- in a good way.

Tara's analogy of the island's energy being like an unfamiliar step-mother was amusing. Even as her eyelids started drooping, she thanked Tommy for helping with the spell. "My pleasure," he replied sincerely, recalling the different spirits he'd seen. He wondered if people's spirits were always so diverse, or if it was a consequence of the odd collection of people who'd survived the crash. Then Tara lay down for a nap. "You rest. I'm wide awake, so I'll keep an eye out."

The Doctor excused himself soon after Tara drifted to sleep. He made his way back to the lean to and ducked inside the welcome shade.

"Good thing you didn't make me come get you." Rose gave half a smile and she knelt at the top of the blanket she'd designated as his, though he rarely slept on it. The clapped her hands against her thighs. "Come on them. Head here."

The Doctor almost gaped, almost... but he recovered before he did. "What are you on about now?"

"Old headach remeady. Soothes the best of 'em. Lay down." Rose commanded cheerfully.

"I have my own headache remeady, you know. Besides, human curatives may well not work on me. I told you about asprin." The Doctor was balking, and he knew it. More, he knew she knew he was balking.

"No asprin. Just good old massage therapy. Now get down here or I'll tackle you. Think of the loss of dignity." She had her hands on her hips now.

"I am." He shot back. But she wasn't about to let this go.

With a long suffering sigh he did as he was bade. Not because he was capitulating. Oh no. But because the bother of arguing would only aggrivate said headache. Yes, that was it.

There was a distinct discomfort of having his head resting on Rose's lap, her stomach touching the crown of his head. It had nothing to do with his headache.

"Alright now. Just relax." Rose pressed warm fingertips to his temples and rubbed in a gentle circular motion.

Ralax. Easier said then done.

But he let her get on with her silly little human bit of hokum as he willed himself into a light healing trance. The last was a bit harder to schieve than normal. Most likely do to the heat, and the stress of spending six days in the same place. It definately had nothing to do with the scent of Rose, or the warmth of her thighs and stomach, the intimacy of their current position.

Finally, despite Rose's teasing fingers he managed to slip into the level of trance he needed, refocussing blood flow and blocking neurons and pain signals, deliberately relaxing the pathways so long fallen to disuse.

Without quite realizing it, he actually managed to drift off, and for a short while managed to sleep without nightmares or guilt.
