The Doctor sat outside of Isabel's door on a chair dragged from the next room. He didn't need to be in the same room for passive mental contact. He wasn't invading her mind, just sensing her biorythems, her intent, her own mental state, without interfearing. Of course it would be a bit easier with physical contact, always was. But she deserved her privicy ( ... )

In the manner of dreams, the flickering light ahead took the wrong amount of time to reach. Isabel had always found this curious, as she had experienced the same in her own dreams. It was something one only noticed when remembering a dream upon waking - or when, conscious and aware - one observed someone else's dream as it happened ( ... )

She burst out of the room, nearly colliding with the waiting Doctor, who already looked alert to her approach. No doubt he'd observed her return from Ethan's dream, but she couldn't know how much he'd seen or if he'd interpreted it in the same way.

"He figured out what I was doing. Nearly took control of the dream with me in it! Ethan's dangerous, Doctor. Dangerous like nobody I've encountered before."

She paused a moment, feeling again that sickening twisting of the dream as he'd started to wrench away her control of her dream-self. How could he do that? How could anyone do that?

"I didn't even know what he just tried was possible. I'm... I'm not sure about the others now. Should I try them? What if they can do the same thing?"

It was no real use, trying the others. Isabel's fear of entering their dreams after her experience with Ethan, so unusual, so... alien. It was absurd for her to use the word, but it fit perfectly. His mind was not much like other humans, at least in his dreams.

Isabel returned to her bed and lay there, staring up into the darkness at where the ceiling would be if she could see it. Her mind whirled round and round, considering possibilities, weighing options. Ultimately, there was nothing she could do. There were more powerful telepaths here, at least one with a great deal more strength and a wider range of abilities than anybody else Isabel had ever met. Perhaps Ami could suggest a course of action.

Perhaps the best course of action was just leaving things alone.

Eventually, with these thoughts going through her mind, she fell into sleep.
