Summary: The treasure hunt had been Sam’s idea, the rest of the team agreeing only when they realised why Sam suggested it. Vala had recently been looking a little lost and slightly nervous, unsure of herself.

The treasure hunt had been Sam’s idea, the rest of the team agreeing only when they realised why Sam suggested it. Vala had recently been looking a little lost and slightly nervous, unsure of herself.
The brunette now stood with her long curling brown-black hair tied in it’s usual pigtails, her blue eyes shining just a little as she straightened her green shirt over her black pants that matched her black boots. She glanced around as she waited, seeming eager to get going.
River Song, an archaeologist from another galaxy, stood nearby, her long curled copper hair loose around her shoulders, blue-green eyes shining as she smiled at the eagerness Vala was displaying. The teams had set up several small surprises for her and River was waiting to gate out to the right place for the end of the hunt.
The starting flag dropped and Vala headed out with Sam, River gating out to her position within seconds. She stopped at the right place and settled to wait, knowing full well Sam was likely to ‘get lost’ on purpose to give them both time.
The time passed slowly as River waited, finally recognising Sam’s voice as she headed off away from Vala, making excuses to split off and leave Vala to her prize alone, doubling back to the first of the two gates out of the system. Vala’s tone was softly nervous as she agreed and continued on her own.
Bushes began to shake and crunch as Vala passed, River standing as she recognised Vala’s footfalls, waiting steadily for the girl. She’d deliberately dressed down in a light white dress and flat sandals, making herself look slim and small despite her height.
When Vala finally emerged she paused, seeming unsure of why River was there, then steadily began to smile. “Are you the prize?”
“Yes.” River replied softly, crossing the small gap between them easily and stopping in front of the woman. “Are you going to claim me?”
“May I?”
“That’s why I’m here.” River murmured finally, stepping closer again, dipping her head to softly kiss Vala’s cheek. “If you want me?”
Vala smiled wolfishly as she replied. “I do indeed.”
The two spent a while together in the shade of the trees, River slowly taking her time to bring Vala back out of her shell, soothing away the worries that were often hidden under Vala’s usually sunny disposition.
