Point 1: rules for the community have been revised, please read the info page.

Point 2: ALL IMAGES MUST NOW BE BEHIND A CUT TAG WITH TEXT DESCRIBING WHAT THEY ARE. All images. If you clicked on it and didn't like it, it's your fault. If you didn't put it behind a cut and someone flamed you, it's your fault ( Read more... )

I really, really don't wanna be the nitpicky one on this thread, but there are guys in this community too.. :-\ "raving women" and all. Sorry if that's picky, it just bothered me a bit to have the people in this community turned into "raving women".

However, I have zero problem with the image rule. Most people post more than one picture anyway, it's not like it's extra coding. I don't think it's censorship; censorship would be not allowing the pictures at all. So thanks for the rule. And thank you for taking out time in your personal life to deal with this.

There are indeed men in this community. I've yet to receive an email from one. ;-)

Thanks. As an accross the board rule, then it doesn't smack quite so much of censorship.

::shrugs::

You can't make everyone happy all of the time, I guess.

I think that it's a good fair rule.

Forget the dicks and boobies, it's kinder on the poor dial-uppers.

I tried to talk people into it based on that a while ago, as well as "just link to pictures," but no go.

Excellent point!

I have a nice cable modem now, but I spent several years living in a part of the country where there was no broadband provision whatsoever, and so everyone stuck with dialup has my full sympathy.

Okay. About the images behind a cut tag. I guess I don't understand that one. Livejournal has an option, under Manage>Info called "use image placaeholders on your friends page" which allows you to effectively MAKE a "cut tag" of sorts for ANY image that appears on your friends list. If you're fussed about images for ANY reason, it should be YOUR responsibility to turn that option on. I have it on. I am allowed to use the internet at work, to surf the internet as much as I want, but I can't look at gambling or porn. Therefore, I have placeholders for all images. If I have doubts about a picture, from the text given, I don't click it at work. So, I don't see the point of cut tags, personally.... Just wanted to mention about that option.

Yeah, I've (and other people have) pointed that out before. I still get constantly complained to. So I'm making one more effort to get people to try to think about each other here, and have everyone go a little bit of extra distance. Everybody loses. That's the deal.

For what it's worth, I think you've come up with a fine compromise.
There are always going to be people who disagree with each other, especially over issues of what is "offensive" or not (a matter of opinion). And, in a community, it's important to respect other people. It's a simple as that, a matter of respect. This isn't life or death here. It's whether we see images immediately or after a click. Not all of us read this group on our friends page. I have custom groups set up, and none of my communities are in the default group that shows up on my friends page. I did it that way because all the posts from the active groups were pushing my individual friends' posts down to the bottom and off the page faster than I had a chance to read them.

When I want to read a group, I go right to the group page. I'm not aware of any way to control what shows up when I get here, short of disabling images altogether in my browser.
