I am glad that I went with a couple of folks who were also into comics, though, because if I hadn't I suspect I might have spent a lot of the con feeling kind of marginalized as a comics fan who wasn't into any media shows or movies at the time. Weird at a Comic Con, but the studios really are the 400 pound gorillas of the event now.
I'd posed that question on my LJ: is it good or bad that the studios realize they can peddle their wares so successfully at a comics con? Will comics end up pushed out entirely? Or are the publicity and stars a good thing for the con?
Thanks! I always intend to write con reports, but 98% of the time I never finish. They always get so long!

Or are the publicity and stars a good thing for the con?I had intended to answer this in your LJ, but enough time has gone by that I think I'm just going to answer it here. *g* I think, at least for the time being, that the publicity and the attraction the stars have for other folks is good for the con, at least for now. Comics have become a really specialized market with an aging audience. I figure anything that might get new potential readers in contact with comics related stuff is a good thing

And secretly hope that teen!Steve has a cameo. Or possibly write him in myself, as the popular jock in the school who feels isolated from his jock-friends because he's trying to come to terms with being gay. And he develops a huge crush on Tony, who also seems set apart from the other students because he's never attended public school before and is ridiculously brilliant, which never makes you popular in school.
I would like to subscribe to your news letter. *G* Had fun meeting you and going through trade bins at con.
On this note, Nix, you totally have to write it. You must. Because you'd do it perfectly, and because it needs to be done.
Either that, or animated!Tony is going to end up getting it on with animated!mandarin, which while potentially interesting, would take some work to make believable, even with Tony's self-destructive streak...
*laughs* I have Thoughts. *g* But I'm really not that confident in my ability to write kids. Eeek. Maybe we'll see once the series gets going and I have more than the first two eps to go on!
*grins* Since my LJ effectively is my newsletter...welcome!
Which reminds me, would you like to be on my fics-in-progress babble filter? I don't ever post actual stories or parts of stories to the filter, but it is where I update people on the status of stories I'm in the midst of writing, post word counts, bitch about stuff I'm stuck on, and that sort of thing. People have to specifically ask to be on the filter, because I refuse to tease people about stories that may never be written or posted unless they sign up for said teasing.
Hehee, oh my impassioned anti-Ultimates... weirdly I like ultimates in small doses just not the main team. It is how i got my cousin in, i knew what he liked and Ultimates would give him that the way I see it geekery should be passed on even if you are passing a form that isn't your ideal if you know the other person will love it share it with them.
Said mainly because I leant some mistake comic buys of mine to a longtime friend today- he is already adoring them I wasn't so fond. *Authority Kev. Frank millar's batman to name a few*
One day I want to go to comicon... for now I'll be happy with Fanexpo and standing in a ridiculous long line up to try and get buzz aldrin's sig.

The really sad thing is, the Ultimate universe has some good parts. Not really to my taste, but they don't strike me as wildly OOC. Why they had to fuck over the characterization of my favorite characters and not almost anyone else... :-(

*wince* It's always kind of frustrating when that happens! On the one hand, yay for a new comics fan. On the other hand, you then can't share the squee with the friend. :-(
Glad you had a great time! Interesting to hear about it from someone who is actually totally into comics and not much into the media side, because I always have it in my head not to go, because it's Comic Con, and I'm not much into the actual comics. Heh.
I'd gotten rather intense and the guy standing on the other side of me said, "But the bottom line is, it's just a comic book."
Wow, what a fucking douchebag. I can understand feeling sheepish on your part, but you know what? There is SUCH a huge difference between making an ass of yourself on an official capacity by standing in front of a panel of creators and a room full of people versus you having an impassioned discussion with one individual person. The jerk who made the comment is an asshole. I mean, hello, he's at a COMIC BOOK CONVENTION. Way to throw stones.

I think I had some of the same feeling myself, which is why I never went before. I was always into media fandoms, and even though I heard about stuff like the entire cast of Heroes being there, in my brain it was still Comic Con. So I only went once I was into comics. But being there...yeah, it's absolutely a con for media fen, too. As much as for comics.

I was getting pretty intense, so I just figured that he didn't want the discussion turning into an argument. *

I couldn't find an Iron Man baby tee, per se, but I did find someone at cafepress who make a Stark Industries one: http://t-shirts.cafepress.com/item/stark-industries-womens-dark-tshirt/265087468
Enjoy!
