Listing the Triggers in Criminal Minds

"Into the Woods" is on my TV right now, and I looked it up on the CM wiki, and decided to skip it the way I skipped "P911", and wish I had skipped "Hope". I know there are probably some people who skipped the pyro episodes even if they didn't the others, because the result of burns are their last straws, everyone have different ones, let's make a ( Read more... )

Thank you SO much for this. I find myself skipping entire episodes or huge portions of episodes because they are too graphic or deal with subject matter I can't handle. I love the characters, drama, storylines... but sometimes it's too much for me. Wonderful idea. :)

What's the episode where (highlight to read) the boyfriend/girlfriend duo is kidnapping girls and they video tape the boyfriend raping them? Because the camera focus on the girl while she being raped was just... uuuuuugh it seriously messed me up for a while. :( Forgive me if it's already listed. ^^

If that episode was the early season one where Gideon was still around, then it's 203 The Perfect Storm. I was watching most of S1-S301 in order, and I definitely felt that TPS was a marked departure from previous episodes in that the sexual violence was much more graphic...but I didn't list it because it didn't feel as torture-porn as the later season episodes. Maybe my memory accidental one scene (if so, please correct), but were all the scenes of what's going on never On Screen, except on the TV behind one of the BAU agent's back?).

It is probably triggering for all the things the dom unsub did to cause as much pain as possible, as well as WHY she did it, but I don't know how to list that?????I totally watch CM for the cast, I checked this out because someone told me Dr.Reid was pretty, I didn't expect to like it so much, got hooked because of Jason Gideon, and watched the other episodes because there aren't other series where you get so much awesome female characters, or where the cast does feel like a family. ...but so far, ( ... )

There's a particular scene where one of the BAU (I think Hotch?) is watching a home video of the attack, and it's taken from the front of the girl and you can see the guy behind her and she's crying. I just can't handle scenes of rape.

I do the same! I watch BAU scenes, skip a lot of unsub scenes, especially the ones having to do with sexual assault. /whimp

Oh yeah, /that/. Emotionally speaking, that was ick, which was why it's now listed on the list under sexual assault and kidnapping. Over all though, considering same subject matter, I much prefer this episode to the later ones, it's more discretely done, it shows victim impact, but you don't see anything lower than her shoulders.

The later episodes...how do I put this mildy? I can't. I get the impression that they were shot as masturbation fodder, that I found extremely misogynist and objectifying. Urgh.

Some more that come to mind:

Cannibalism: "Blood Hungry"; "Lucky"; "Exit Wounds".

Animal attacks (i.e., attacks by animals as distinct from abuse of animals): "The Big Game"-"Revelations"

Could you repost your comments, but with

Minus *?

I just realise I forgot to do that for the first paragraph of this post, boy do I have an egg on my face now!

Agree and agree. If I had know, I would never never never had watched Hope. It's the combination of the victim (children are helpless and therefore it's not FAIR), and the act of "total usurption of someone's life" that I found absolutely abominable.

If I didn't know about the irl cases, maybe I wouldn't find it so unbearable, but I do, it's not the fictional story itself that upsets me, it's the reminder of how many cases of this is out there, could be ongoing now.

As a grown woman who remembers the ending of The Collector 1965, in her place, as a grown woman, I would fucking slit the fucker's throat with my nails and teeth. Failing that, if I was ever in a situation where I was staring up at a mirror in Frank's trailer, well, at least I have some happy childhood memories, some measures of accomplishment. Hope didn't ( ... )
