HAY GUISE. i'm almost finished with the machine of death. aside from my recently-torrented folder of batman novels, what should i be reading and why

hmm, i'm up for something really gripping? haven't read anything like that in a while. (more and more these days i find myself putting my ebook reader down and wandering off to do something else.) i'm not really looking for anything that's high fantasy (dragons, elves, etc.) unless it's really quite unique, like the amulet of samarkand. magic realism is okay though. alternatively, something witty and/or with a twist?
Have you read much Terry Pratchett? That's pretty much the only author I know, and I've read practically all his books. One of my favourites from his young adult books is "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents", which is a twist on the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. I also like "Only You Can Save Mankind", which has references to the Alien movie.
my friend's actually lent me mort, and i'm struggling to get through it. not because it's BAD (it's actually pretty good), but it's so put-downable. i'll put it down and go play a video game and then forget about it completely.
i know right. :\ though i wonder when it was written, since i think rictor and shatterstar have gotten together fairly recently.
i wish there were more lesbian characters in the DC universe. some of them have the best relationship ever-- but they're 'just really good friends'. >:
what about poison ivy and harley quinn? or is that just fanon? (I don't actually know that much about source material, I just pick up stuff from fanfic/fanart haha)
it's pretty heavily hinted, but definitely not canon. :\ the writers and readers all take it as canon, but they never really have a relationship in the comics.
Wow, that sounds really interesting. :O I've become a colossal faggot for philosophy now that I'm taking Ethics in college, so that seems like it'd be fantastic. I'm curious, though: how do deontology and utilitarianism come in to play? Deontology for great justice. Because that sounds really really epic.
knowingly putting a child's life at risk night after night (ESPECIALLY after the death of the second robin-- nngh dude random but you so hafta watch under the red hood, everyone who's watched it has loved it), versus all the good that the robins do by taking care of gotham, with or without batman. it actually is a very good book. the very first essay is about why batman doesn't kill the joker and talks (again) about utilitarianism (all the people who'd still be alive if the joker was just dead), versus prepunishment (can you really just assume that he'll commit a crime again and punish him before he's even committed it).
