I dyed my hair pink after getting permission at work, but then the permission fell flat so I had to cover up the pink or move to an office out of sight of any potentially offended prospects. (The unspoken "or else," of course, was to go on my boss's boss's shitlist for all eternity for valuing my hair color over my job.) I bought a box of dark ash

It's weird that this would be totally fine with your boss, when it's as unnatural as the pink. I mean, I know it's less bright, but I still think your boss is a poopy face.
