Book abuser!!!

I disagree with this man on a cellular level. Books are your friends, people. FRIENDS, NOT FOOD. Just replace the word "book" with "friend" in this article and you will understand how not ok this is. When he says "I like to write in books," think, "I like to write on my FRIEND," which is clearly less appropriate. It's ok to fold over corners ( Read more... )

How can you shower with a book?

I've been trying to learn how to do that since I could READ, but with my hair, I thought I'd need plastic books.

Some of my friends have often picked up a book of mine, looked it over, and then placed it OPEN FACE DOWN. They were *shocked* when I blanched, screamed, and then hugged poor booky.

Yes, actually Amy, how CAN you shower with a book? Especially during all those years when you were the proud owner of waist-to-ass-length hair? Share your secrets with me!

Also, I am really afraid to give you back the books I borrowed now. I treated them with care but what if I sneezed on one and didn't realize it?..... this entry made me tremble in fear.

Don't worry, Tow. You will be fine. As long as they're in mint condition, of course. Ever seen my tiny copy of Atlas that I read without breaking the spine? Bwahahaha.

Reading in the shower is possible! First, you must learn how to do everything one handed, including pour shampoo. (Hint: warm it up first - those bottles are cold!!). It IS possible to wash long hair with one hand - just takes practice. Once in a while you MUST switch hands, so have a safe outside place for your book to rest and a towel to dry your hands when you want to pick it up again.

When you get the one-hand thing down, start doing it one-handed with the other arm extended way out in front of you, with your back to the water. It will take some endurance training ;) Start with a crap book you don't like becuse you'll probably soak it. Magazines are hard because they are big and they curl. Eventually you'll get it...I can shave my legs and read, which nobody with sense should admit to.

Sounds like I'll have to wait til I have a bathroom that doesn't try to kill me when I take a shower. Or, a real hot water heater.

I have to say, showering and reading is a talent. I will admit to some reading in the tub, but you take the cake. :)

Coming back four months later to report that the dust jacket to my copy of The Thirteenth Tale got so totally mangled in my travels to Colorado it isn't even funny. I blame David and the way he shoves things into our carryon backpack. I won't show it to you, because you might die. I'm pretty sad about it.
