I'm making this for my toxicoligist friend for her birthday, as I was browsing Ravelry and thought he was just too damn cute not to make :D Plus it's forced me to actually start crocheting...
I haven't quite reached the colour-change yet, but reading the pattern over, I'm slightly confused about the amount of stitches to pick up. In the blue part row 23 has 18 stitches (chains?), but when joining the white yarn the pattern says there should be 24, which then decreases to 18. From the photos it looks like the top of the flask flares out, but I can't quite tell how that works in the pattern.
Thanks for pointing out that this was confusing. I added an explanation that will hopefully clarify things. It's been a while since I made this guy though, so if it still doesn't make sense when you get to the point where you are switching to white, give me a holler! I think this explanation was how I did it, but I could be wrong. :P
I'm glad you like Earl! He and the other amigurumi in my science set were a lot of fun to make.
Hey, sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this. Your explanation made perfect sense, and for a first-ever crochet project Earl came out nearly perfectly, and my friend loved him :D However, she's already poking me to make her a gel to go with, though I have point-blank refused to even think of making her a pipette for at least two years...
Smaller size patternext_5103968May 13 2019, 01:14:45 UTC
Thank you for the pattern. I was making this for a chemist friend who is pregnant, and so needed my flask to be a good size for baby hands. I have adjusted the sizing, and added a lip to the top that gives it a nice flare out. I thought you, and your readers might like it if they also wanted to make a smaller size
