A while back I asked for some help cutting some fake fur for a plushie. Well, I have the plushies done now, although it's taken me a while to come here and post the pictures! (I've had them on Tumblr for a while now

If you've got a thrift store in your area, check to see if you can find something there that would work for the overcoat. A kid size coat or khaki pants should give you more than enough fabric to work with, and probably wouldn't cost much.
My brother used to have a medium-weight cotton jacket (his was light grey) that he wore for playing outside when we were kids. The fabric was very much like what I think you're looking for, even if it was the wrong color for a 'traditional' trench-coat.

It's hard to pinpoint why I find them so fascinating. Part of it is that I'm nuts about the blond actor, Christopher Cary, and followed him to that role last year. It was the first time I'd seen him in the latter 1970s in a prominent guest-starring role, and I was thrilled.
But also, I just plain love the interaction between him and Luke Andreas, who plays Lou. There's something about the way they interact that to me says the actors were having a ball and the characters seem to have known each other for a long time. And that really drew me in, even though the characters are jewel thieves and in Ginger's case, rather dangerous!
Oh wow! Those are really well done! I am impressed. I guess I have been a bit out of touch, huh? I didn't even know you did these things. Good work! <3
I rarely do; I have to be completely obsessed before I'm willing to embark on a sewing project like this. ;) The only other one I've made is Hamilton Burger from Perry Mason.
