When Karkat returns to their hidey-hole in the asteroid from Milliways, it takes a moment to re-orient himself. In all the weeks in the bar, no time has passed here. He needs to talk to his friends about what he saw, see if there's some way to use it to mount a defense against the creature hunting them, but first he has to take stock of his crew...

Aradia, his best candidate to use what he's seen, just exploded. Inexplicably, somewhat, but Karkat is pretty sure the science of trapping ghosts inside robots is pretty much in its fucking infancy at the moment, so it's not actually a surprise. It's hard to feel the impact of losing her; they've seen so many of her orphaned timeclones die. But this one was for real. Apparently.

Sollux and Feferi have withdrawn to Gamzee's big pile of shitty horns to glub about their feelings; even Karkat isn't insensitive enough to interrupt. Sollux was Aradia's best friend, back before she was a ghost-frog-robot lunatic.

Eridan disappears with Kanaya around then; quick thinking from Kanaya. Eridan had taken the relationship between Feferi and Sollux relationship pretty hard, was constantly trying to start shit with Sollux to pull them out of their quadrant, and Kanaya was a bit of a judo master when it came to keeping peace among the idiots. Karkat is grateful for that, in his irritable, distracted way. Besides, she's the only one who follows orders.

Equius leaves too, followed by his moirail Nepeta; he had been Aradia's matesprit or... or something, and she hadn't even said goodbye. Karkat's never liked the big sweaty creep, but he can't help feeling a little sorry for him.

Gamzee is AWOL; probably trying to walk off the sopor slime withdrawal. Karkat makes a mental note to worry about the poor doofus when he can find the time. Too many irons in the fire.

Tavros is probably falling down some fucking stairs or something with his new robot legs. Karkat doesn't like the idea of him wandering around out there with Vriska gone. If they don't kill each other before all this is over it'll be a fucking miracle.

Vriska, speaking of the spiderbitch, is probably holed up somewhere that Terezi can't spy on her. They've been antagonizing each other using the human males as proxies, with a lot of repulsive interspecies flirting. Not that Karkat is jealous. Terezi can swoon over all the fucking candy-blooded shades-wearing human coolkids she wants. Or... cry over them, apparently, as she suddenly starts doing. Karkat goggles at the teal trickle and reaches out to... poooke it; Terezi slaps him away and runs out of the room. Fuck.

So that leaves, uh, no one. His mind is more on his romantic difficulties than Milliways, anyway, when Kanaya approaches him. She wants to seed the matriorb in the asteroid; it's an egg for a new Mother Grub, the last hope for their species, and it baffles him why she'd want to anchor it in this shithole. But it's her responsibility as a jadeblood, so he just shrugs and gives permission.

And then Eridan comes back and it all goes to shit...
