I am Crabby Lioness, hear me roar....

As part of my efforts to reaquaint my self with comics after years out of it I joined the Comic Book Resources Forum because I was told it was a good place to find out things. Pity I got banned within a week. And not for any violations on my part. Oh no, it seems my "posting style" resembled someone else's too closely. Apparently they believe ( Read more... )

I was wondering what was going on.

Sounds to me like someone got their panties into a knot, and complained to the mods. And complained enough that they took action, because how dare you be well-spoken, well-educated, and not agree with the mass of drooling attention-whoring trolls.

Honestly, most of the time I don't consider CBR to be anything more than a troll-spawning pool. It occasionally has interesting information and news, but several of the users fill me with the urge to punch kittens. I'm sure you know exactly which users I mean, too.

Sorry this happened to you. Quite honestly, I half-expect to be nailed as a troll or a sock pocket next. I mean, I agreed with you! I'm a new user on the board and all, too.

Thank you. I'm not going to say any more tonight. I'm going to give myself a chance to calm down and them to get back with me. But -- it's a good thing I can't "Hulk out" or I'd be out one house. :P

You're very welcome. And it's completely understandable.

'Or maybe they want to keep such women out of comics fandom; I've run into that attitude before.'
Me too. *I think this calls for my comic icon* Apparently women aren't supposed to like sci-fi either (tell that to all the women who show up at Dragon and Comic con every year). And people wonder why comic/sci-fi fans are usually portrayed on t.v. as thirty year old male (virgin) nerds living in there mom's basement.

I run into that all the time, when I tell people, I'm going to a convention about Sci-Fi and Doctor Who/Torchwood, and heck I'm going to Wales this coming week to see JB in Panto, but besides the panto, I'm going to walk around Cardiff and look at various filming locations, because that interests me.

I've actually had to say to people at work, I'm going to see some shows in cardiff and I'm going to check out the nearby Castles, cause apparently it's cooler to be into the history of the Castles and what not than Sci-Fi (though yes, I'm checking out the castles, but for the fact they were used as filming locations :) )

Oh, I'm sure you'll have fun. I heard that Gareth's Panto was a lot of fun too.

'though yes, I'm checking out the castles, but for the fact they were used as filming locations :)'
*heh* That's the spirit :D

I've seen this before on forums. Some newbie turns up and starts posting, and then suddenly somebody says "You sound like [previously banned poster]". It only takes one person to agree, and before they know what's hit them, the newbie is being accused on all sides of being somebody they've never heard of before. It's just another form of the nasty bullying that you get on the Net these days. Usually it happens because the newbie has somehow offended a thin-skinned administrator. Woe betide the innocent poster who knows more about a subject than somebody in power!

On the one hand, sounds like you're better off out of the place. That's not much comfort, though, I know. Is there an LJ community that you could perhaps use instead?

Truthfully, there's always been bullying & power games in fandom, the anonymity of the Net seems just to have exacerbated it.
