1--I seriously doubt JKR put this much thought into it. Not arguing with you, as I do agree, but think JKR would probably just blink at you and then be all like, "yeah...that's what I was going for."

3--I have to admit, I've always wondered if he was planning on killing himself and destroying all the Horcruxes if he ever achieved his goal.

#1 does make him less of a Nice Guy who just couldn't get over that one girl in high school who rejected him. I could see that reading of him.

I wonder about #3. I mean, I'm pretty sure that Voldemort was inspired by Hitler, who also was completely not the Aryan ideal that his policies promoted, and anybody could see that, but I don't think his followers would dare suggest it. I think Voldemort would have been placed on such a pedestal by himself and his followers that he transcends any other law applied to normal folk that it would never occur to them that he doesn't live up to his own pureblood ideals. Or if it did, fear of instant death would keep them silent.

But I do think you're right that his origins are likely largely unknown by his followers. I don't think most people even knew about Tom Riddle, although clearly Lucius did.
