first kiss.

"I...ah...I should say something, shouldn't I?"

"You could," she says, lightly. "Or."

"...or I could, yes. I could do that. You could do that too, I think."

"Like this, you mean?"

"Yes, I should say, rather like that."

Elizabeth smiles briefly and murmurs something flippant about 'a lot of firsts that evening'. Her mind drifts over cooling cups of tea and the tie she absconded with at some ridiculous hour of the morning, tucking it away in her slip drawer. His shirt, borrowed only briefly to prevent her son waking to discover his mother wearing something that didn't belong to her before he'd even got used to the idea of a man paying her attention.

Claire, in the morning, before the Petrellis arrived, before their whole family relocated to the apartment building. Imagine it; a teenage girl coming home at six or seven in the morning vs. her adult guardian of the time, wearing a man's shirt and a startled expression. Rules, boundaries and coffee before they both disappeared to their respective bedrooms.

They don't talk about Todd, now, but Grif still calls Nathan 'the breakfast man'. She rolls her eyes, but it makes her smile.
