I'm writing a fic that I'm stumped on. Mostly I think I'm stumped because I realized that finishing it would require a lot of effort and it feels like only three people would read it, because no one actually likes McGee, therefore the margin of people would be even further reduced because it's McGee-centric kidfic. Gah. Self-criticism is one of my major blocks when it comes to writing, so I totally understand that kind of nervousness. Maybe if you treat what you're writing now as the most basic of drafts, and tell yourself that you'll come back later and drastically edit it all? That kind of attitude can convince you that small things that might be off aren't such big deal now and tends to make getting on with writing a bit easier, for me at least.

Also - Hey! I like McGee! But you're right - he does get kind of neglected. Poor guy. *pets him*

I know, I mean I get why people might not like him, but in my other fandoms it seems like everyone automatically identifies with the awkward geek/computer genius. Maybe because there's already an incredibly awesome, so not awkward computer genius to identify with.

The combination of nervousness in anticipation of having to do a LOT of work, and knowing that few people will be interested in reading it, is totally deadly. So I sympathize.
