I sometimes feel like the UK has a more vocal crackpot conservative minority than the US. Compare the comments on "obama won!" articles on the NYT vs BBC. NYT were overwhelmingly positive from around the world, UK was a lot of whiny brits complaining of socialism. It seems to be a recurring theme on BBC articles.
Probably for the same reason US conservatives are suddenly up in arms -- things are changing enough that they feel the need to put up a fight. I figure it's a good sign when they start getting this paranoid.

Some are bold enough to state that agenda outright; others reserve themselves to disingenuity, duplicity, and this balderdash: screeching that the Atheists are coming! the Atheists are coming! every time one of their nonsensical and antisocial laws gets shot down in court, or more appropriately, laughed out of committee in the legislature.
