OMGONOZ! More Christian Persecution!

This time it's in Britain! ...if British Christians don’t step up now, the nation is on a path to eventually criminalize the practice of Christianity in public.Of course, this sets aside the fact that the British Constitution explicitly makes the head of state also the head of the Church of England. At least the UK is a secular enough society that the local officials are *concerned* about "inciting hatred against atheists", so the British christian paranoia is sorta, kinda, vaguely more understandable than US paranoia. And they have Jedis over there, which would probably scare me too.

I sometimes feel like the UK has a more vocal crackpot conservative minority than the US. Compare the comments on "obama won!" articles on the NYT vs BBC. NYT were overwhelmingly positive from around the world, UK was a lot of whiny brits complaining of socialism. It seems to be a recurring theme on BBC articles.

Probably for the same reason US conservatives are suddenly up in arms -- things are changing enough that they feel the need to put up a fight. I figure it's a good sign when they start getting this paranoid.

The only problem with that is, the more vocal "conservatives" in this country are not conservative at all; they don't want to resist change for the sake for change. They want to resist change for the sake of resisting. Not only is any change scary to them (that would be ordinary conservatism) they want to make changes themselves (in the direction of theocracy.)

Some are bold enough to state that agenda outright; others reserve themselves to disingenuity, duplicity, and this balderdash: screeching that the Atheists are coming! the Atheists are coming! every time one of their nonsensical and antisocial laws gets shot down in court, or more appropriately, laughed out of committee in the legislature.

It wasn't the actual news people, it was comments from regular idiots on online articles. (Lucky for us, some of them live in the US now -- they were upset that they were now having to deal with the same socialist dogma that they left the UK to get away from. Such hard lives they lead, the refugees from accessible health care. Will they ever find peace?)
