The Cycle Continues

So it's spring, which means I have a terrible urge to play FFXI. This crops up at least once a year around this time - I think it's the smell of spring. The heyday of FFXI for me was Spring 2004 - the windows were open, the smell of spring filled the apartment, and I spent all day charging around Vana'diel saving Tarutaru from the Shadow Lord or ( Read more... )

I actually canceled my XI accounts earlier in the year. I hadn't logged in a about 6 months, so finally called it an end.

It was about a month before that I gave up on XIV as well.

And I stopped WoW in March. So yeah...I think MMOs are a bit behind me. But I still like remembering the good old days we had.

I just need something to do in the evenings, which for the moment seems to be MMOs. I'm getting kind of bored with WoW, and I miss FFXI's atmosphere... although I always end up regretting my attempts to return. It never works out. And nobody ever wants Summoners.

There was one LS I had my eye on, but it's run by Catwho, and I remember that name but I don't remember why I remember that name. Were they a friend or an enemy? I don't know. I don't want to try and sign up and have someone go "I REMEMBER YOU, YOU TOOK MY AF2 HORN YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD."

I never even bought FFXIV; by the time I had the money to do it, the whole thing had fallen apart.

FFXIV had a lot of promise and I'm sad it fell apart so completely. Final Fantasy is Square's flagship product, though, so I think they'll try hard to rescue it. FFXI still seems to be making money by the bucketload so at least they won't go broke in the meantime.

Judging from the FFXI forums, there's some crazy influx of returning old players right now - I can't explain it other than "WoW ennui" driving people back to their old haunts.

There's a Rift free trial going on this weekend which I'm going to try, but I think after that if I still feel Vana'diel calling me I will start FFXI up again and see how long it lasts. It'll be hard to fit it around WoW raiding, but from what I hear you can jump in and out of Abyssea pretty easily.

From the scraps I remember, I think Catwho was a white mage in IRON. She probably resurrected me a couple times, and that's the extent of our interaction.
