Black Iris Glitter Corset

Aug 01, 2009 20:03

You may remember some time back I posted a request for suggestions for glitter fabrics for a planned corset. Well i went with the fabric I'd originally had my eye on to use and here's the result.

The fabric I used is very densely glittered in black, pink, blue and greed on a cotton drill backing. It looks rather like petrol on water. Remarkably durable and easier to sew than I thought it would be. I kept plenty of needles to hand and re-thought my construction in a few places to minimise the bulk on the seams. The bust seams don't look totally flat on the pics but that's just the dummy not filling it out. On a body it lies perfectly flat.

It's duchesse satin on the side panels and the busk for comfort and wear reasons as well as contrast. Black coutil strength layer, steel bones etc, etc. There's mixture of external and internal cases, as the external cases provided a frame to the glitter fabric. The binding is made from the same duchesse satin.

Hope you all like! It looks far better on it's owner of course, and the photographs don't show the sheer force of the sparkle. I'm hoping to get some proper pics from my client soon, as it looked fabulous on her.
