Finished Application Corset

I'm applying for a degree in costume construction this year which requires you to present two garments along with your written application. As most of the stuff I have lying around the house isn't up to my nitpicky standards I started working on this corset. The other piece is a pinstriped caraco jacket, in case anyone's interested.

Here's a picture of it side on. I look ridiculously twiggy and don't particularly like it, but that's why I don't wear corsets all that often. I think my waist is 22" in these pictures. Not sure.

Lesse, one layer of homespun cotton from the quilters section, one layer of ripstop cotton, lined in two layers of batiste. I would've liked to use linen or a plain cotton for the lining, but I had the batiste laying around and got suckered in by it's lovely soft feel. I think there are 36 bones all up. Mostly 7mm flats with 5mm cable ties leftover from that marathon corset a while back. Gold eyelets and busk, lace and purple ribbon and purple flossing in a star sort of shape

(Behold the star!)

And here it is laying out flat. I got to use my shiny (not particularly) new (again, not particularly) 201K on this. I had a bit of trouble in the beginning but I've finally got the hang of the tension adjusting and the like. Now to learn how to use the ruffler foot. *schemes*.

All in all I'm quite happy with this piece. I think perhaps I shouldn't have made it to fit me, rather to fit a more average size to make displaying it on a mannequin easier, but the stitching holds up under close inspection and overall I think it's representative of my sewing skills.
