shock and rage

What I am? Sad. Enraged. Helpless.

EnragedAm I surprised? No. I've lived with these people as my neighbours since I was born. Call it a harmful generalization, but you haven't lived next to it for your entire life, your nation's history isn't defined by struggle against it ( Read more... )

My heart, my thoughts, my prayers have been going out to those children, because there's nothing else I can do. I was devastated this morning to wake up and find out what had happened, and I still want to cry thinking about it. It's so incredibly heartbreaking.

First of all, the terrorists were a bunch of cowards for taking babies hostage, and Russia is being a coward in not taking care of it properly. I had a feeling this would end in disaster as well, and it hasn't even ended, and there's the disaster.

I think we're all angry that these children were killed. No political or religious ideal justifies it and I'm very sorry that so many innocents have suffered (and, indeed continue to suffer).

I don't think that Russia would be wise to let Chechnya have independence (to capitulate to terrorists is, surely, to encourage others to take such a stance).

I confess that I find the psychology of the Russian people to be an enigma. We are not their neighbours (further west) and news of the country does not seem to be free-flowing. I'd always attributed this to their suspicion as opposed to any sense of pride - until now.

From your post, it seems that Russia is unlikely to learn any lessons from this (in terms of handling such incidents).

The whole situation was a waste of lives.

Oh, my. I haven't heard the latest news about the situation then. 150 people killed, mostly children? That is HORRIBLE and tragic and such a waste! *shakes head* I don't understand.
