Because for some reason our society is petrified of the thought that animals are not Disney characters with no gender other than what you're told.

It is truly a shame that people won't even give it a try to see if they can handle an intact animal, it has to be immediately reduced to the way they thought of animals when they were children.

Nope. It's dealing with several women in an animal rescue group to which I belong. It's like an automatic knee-jerk thing with them: they see a healthy, intact male horse, donkey, goat, whatever, and need to slice his balls off before they even think about anything else.
