[ This couldn't be happening...

Over only the course of one weekend, this entire place was being sent to hell. Kohaku had panicked, yes, but for his sister and the friends he had gathered here there was no place for such fear to surface. He had to keep his cool, and allow all of those emotions to grasp tightly within each of this hands-- his weapon.

He stayed close to his sister's side, giving a worried glance every now and then. The greenhouse. The boy knew that Sango had visited there often and seeing such a place crumble would probably only break her heart. They had to make sure it was okay and to protect it against... what were these things?

It has only taken a matter of moments, just a few steps forward, before the scenery around them began to shift. It was odd; an area of mismatched skies and swirling auras. Everything felt so horrifying, cruel, and let a bitter taste of uncertainty he just couldn't quite shake off. This couldn't be happening.... ]

Ane-ue... [ Kohaku's face was soft, yet attentive. Almost as if he was ( ... )

[The greenhouse. One of their main sources of fresh produce--safer than a backyard garden, and more efficient. But honestly, it's not the food growing there that she's thinking about the most--it's the pot of delicate white lilies in a quiet corner.]

[She's made sure to keep herself and her brother doused in water, snow, or the blizzard spell Riku taught her months ago; the same with any fires she can put out. But after a visit to another safehouse, it's hard to go literally all the way across the city. Sango goes anyway, and keeps a constant eye on her brother.]

[The barrier hits and the hairs on the back of her neck prickle, a shiver running down her spine. She drops into a fighting crouch.]

Kohaku. Be careful.

[Even now, she sees small, aggressive creatures leering, wicked-looking as the brightly wrong landscape. Castiel's words flash through her mind: There is something occurring involving the death and return cycle. It is functioning incorrectly and too quickly; restoration is almost immediate but fatal injuries are not ( ... )

[ Matching his sister's pose, Kohaku too goes down into a fighting stance. The last time he had really fought alongside Sango like this, he was a mess. There was shaking, his palms where sweating but... this time was a little different. He knew how to fight, and that first time jitter was long gone. Now, he was a full fledged demon slayer. ]

Right. [ The chain on the extended side of his weapon rattled when he pulled it closer; slowly beginning to whip it into a circle. They were going to get through this together! And swing! Right towards the nearest minion. There was an awkward squeak, clearly indicating he had hit his opponent. Only... too many more to go. ]

[The last time they fought together like this...]

[Well. Not every memory can be a good one.]

[Still, it takes some soothing of frayed nerves and getting used to that yes, he is capable of fighting now--not just a pawn, or an inexperienced novice. She shifts to be back to back with him and slides her boomerang (so far, most useful as a makeshift umbrella against falling fire) off of her shoulder. She wastes little time in letting fly, carving a couple down.]

[ It may not be the best of memories but being able to be like this, just in the environment they were suppose to be in, maybe he could forgot about the past for just a moment.

There was so much adrenaline; his limbs pumped with the raw rush of excitement as he tore another one of them down on site. This shouldn't be too hard, right? Sango had much more experience and learned to deal with these situations on a daily basis. Yet even though something about this seemed off, his mind set did not waver from their victory.

Yet another swing. He's starting to advance closer now to where he can see a faint outline of numerous minions. ] I think they're forming from this direction! [ His beckons to the far right. ]

Kohaku, don't go too far! It's dangerous!

[She cuts down another few, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye before she's forced to turn her full attention to the minions in front of her. She only has so much of a range of vision...!]

There's too many of them; we need to retreat and get help.

[ The boy only slows his pace just a little bit to catch wind of his sister's reply. He knows they should stay close, yes, but the sooner they get done, they sooner they were able to help something Sango really cared for! He never thought of fighting to be a thrill, in fact, he hated it. But being by her side gave him another strength to keep going, regardless of what his mind told him to do.

He took a few steps forward, trying to cut the minions aside as he went. ] Retreat? [ He barely heard her words through the mild shrieking that rang about. ]

Kohaku--

[The biggest lesson she's learned here: futility. Eight months ago she might've pushed on, headstrong. There are some things still worth dying for. Lilies in a greenhouse are not one of them, especially if the death (or deaths) is/are as torturous as Castiel described.]

[She cuts down a few more, with a sword in one hand and Hiraikotsu in the other--they're practically overwhelming. But when she sends another nervous glance his way, she notice a crafty one starting to sneak up behind.] Kohaku, stop!

[ She may have grown through those lessons while she was here, but Kohaku hasn't been here long enough to truly understand the changes his sister was able to withstand. Sure, he knew there was something different, but that strong willed woman he grew up to know... was there really such a caution?

He attempts to cut down a few more, but by now his limbs are beginning to grow tired. With the mass amounts that were beginning to make their presence, it was hard to see which one is which... when would they stop? Another slash, he stumbles this time-- jagged. Cuts and bruises were already starting to line the upfront of his arms and exposed legs. How long would this last?

Wait... Sango? He could hear her speak, something faintly, but with the stir of his exhaustion it was hard to make out. --top? Stop?

That little one just didn't seem to grasp his attention amongst all the rest... ]

[It's the one he doesn't notice that Sango is acutely aware of. With another scream of his name, Kirara's fearsome howling in the background as she tears into the creatures, she slams Hiraikotsu into a wild trajectory that guarantees no return and leaps slashing at the creeping minion.]

[The minion scampers away just in time so that Sango's sword thumps hard into the ground. But her back is turned, and the horde of minions knows how to take an opportunity. In a moment there is a plethora of scratches and cuts to match Kohaku's, then gouges, and then, to her own silent horror, a sharp, tapering black appendage shoots cruelly through her chest. Straight through the scar her brother gave her, emerging too close to her heart for comfort.]

[Sango chokes, and snarls, and blindly stabs her sword backward, succeeding in grazing the creature on her back only by grace of proximity. The exit of the razor-sharp black knife in her chest is more painful than its entrance and she gasps, and collapses, as the minion retreats a couple of feet.]

[ Kohaku's head turned when upon hearing the roar from the giant cat but... his reaction came too late.

The whole event happened so slowly. It was almost as if he was stuck in a timeloop. His body froze, and dark eyes widening to watch helpless as his sister was struck through. ]

Ane-- [ A gasp quickly caught in his throat. He couldn't speak-- couldn't breathe. No no no, no... not his sister. Not after all they had done. This couldn't happening! ]

ANE-UE-!! [ And there it went. That horrid, boyish streak as he finally got his legs to cooperate with him. And boy did he make them go. In his blind rage, the boy in all his screaming, lashed out at the minions around them. Tears blurred most of his vision, but when he felt it was truly enough (which, in reality, would never happen) he finally slid close to his sister's side. Examining the wounds with in unshakable movement in his hands. ]

A- ane-ue, ane-ue! Are you alright? Please be alright...!

[Her breath is shallow and ragged and blood is everywhere, staining the ground. For some reason, their kind has always been spectacularly good at bleeding. She is not a quitter and she does not give up; after all, she is the one who clawed herself out of her own grave. But a stab through her heart and a sickle in the back are two different things. One, you can recover from. The other is fatal.]

[But even though she knows she's going to die, Sango feels calm descend over her. Calm and certainty and relief. From the day she arrived in Adstringendum, it's like she's been waiting for this moment. No... it's been longer. She's had so many close calls, so many moments where she's been prepared to die, that right now feels surreal--she's detached from it all. Like with many things, the anticipation of it all is worse than the actual dying, and she is surprised and dazedly pleased to find this.]

[There's also what Castiel told her. That the death cycle in Adstringendum is currently off. She'll die--and in a few minutes she'll wake with the ( ... )
