... I received a letter. Ah, but my plans are a bit different, so I sincerely apologize, but I will not be able to go along with Doctor-san's plan. That is why for both our sakes, it will be better for us to simply stay out of each other's ways.
It isn't something I consider fun, but it cannot be helped. [ /always vague ] But if Doctor-san can do anything to keep Taiwan-san and Vietnam-san safe, I would be grateful. Certainly, I trust them both, but Taiwan-san, though she means well, is still young, and reckless and naive, and unfortunately I cannot always be there to make sure that she will not do anything tactless.
[What if they gave orders to kill to a seven year old? What if someone's going to be going for one of the few people he honestly cares about? What then?
Not that he'll openly say that or genuinely ask for advice. That's for wusses.]
Uh, but I actually kinda do care about my life. I'm not getting screwed here. I'm not dying ag-I'm not dying here. I don't think I'll get anything out of it, but at least I'll get to live.
Nadeko's a very sweet girl! She's around Charles' age - um, how old he looks, anyway - and Japan and I promised her brother we'd take care of her. I'm really glad she didn't get a letter... She's just a child, you know. She keeps things to herself a lot, but I know she's scared. More scared than you, or me....
Not yet, working on a plan like... thing. Hopefully, it ends up as a plan. I'm not concerned with my target, so best I can do is defend myself against who ever is targeting me while keeping everyone else safe as best I can.
What about you, Charles? ...You're human now too, eh?
Unfortunately, but as you say, they can't take away experience and brains. Brute strength isn't the only way to kill. It's rather indelicate, actually. [even if he does kind of prefer it in the end.
the doctor may be able to pick up the faintest sound of metal against metal in the background before he speaks again.] Have you any idea who might be targeting you? It wouldn't be wise to broadcast your lack of participation if you don't, they might fall under the impression that you've let your guard down, you know?
Indelicate. But well, mostly what we're left with otherwise. [Even the Doctor himself is now carrying around a baseball bat]
No idea, though I'm not particularly concerned. [a pause, as though he's still thinking if what he says next is a good idea] ...If they decide to attack me, I'll fight back if I have to, kill them even. Though I'd rather not. Because then, for better or worse, someone else would just end up targeting me. I'd prefer to just stall the game until we get the inevitable twist.

I can't believe there are people who'd still fall for these tricks...
I'm on your side, Doctor, definitely! But if I leave, Nadeko will be all alone...

People are either falling for it, or are going to get scared and do it anyway. Either way, no one is going to be rewarded in the end. We never are.
Brilliant! Partners in crime again, though who's Nadeko?

I'll protect her too. Hopefully if she doesn't have a letter, she'll be safe. But just in case.

Did you have anything in particular in mind?
