Not yet, working on a plan like... thing. Hopefully, it ends up as a plan. I'm not concerned with my target, so best I can do is defend myself against who ever is targeting me while keeping everyone else safe as best I can.
What about you, Charles? ...You're human now too, eh?
Unfortunately, but as you say, they can't take away experience and brains. Brute strength isn't the only way to kill. It's rather indelicate, actually. [even if he does kind of prefer it in the end.
the doctor may be able to pick up the faintest sound of metal against metal in the background before he speaks again.] Have you any idea who might be targeting you? It wouldn't be wise to broadcast your lack of participation if you don't, they might fall under the impression that you've let your guard down, you know?
Indelicate. But well, mostly what we're left with otherwise. [Even the Doctor himself is now carrying around a baseball bat]
No idea, though I'm not particularly concerned. [a pause, as though he's still thinking if what he says next is a good idea] ...If they decide to attack me, I'll fight back if I have to, kill them even. Though I'd rather not. Because then, for better or worse, someone else would just end up targeting me. I'd prefer to just stall the game until we get the inevitable twist.
An endless game of cat and mouse, hm? I suppose they've done worse. [there's the soft flick of something being flipped open and shut, followed by a mildly exasperated sigh.]
What if this time, the twist is that their warnings and promises are real?
[there's silence on his end for a moment as well. though he's cautious about believing it, he's not ready to completely write it off yet.]
Are you certain? It seems they can do just about anything if they truly wish it. [a beat] And even if they can't make good on their promises, could they make good on their threats?
Ah- [right, Christmas, how could he have forgotten that fiasco. it silences him for a moment as there's no reason to defend the possibility of the promises being true, but there is a real possibility of their threats being true and he won't take that sort of chance.]
I suppose we can only do our best, to whatever ends or means that might entail. ...Have you heard from Vietnam yet?
I will, and I expect you to do the same. I'll try to be as quick as possible, but I don't know which I'll run into first. [referring to Vietnam and his target, which he figures the Doctor will get]
[he feels an unexplainable anger at that, though he's not entirely sure what it's directed at. either way, it's a sentiment he can agree with - he won't allow anyone to lay a finger on her.]
She's capable of taking care of herself, and between the three of us, I doubt harm will come to her. I'll speak with you again shortly.
Did you have anything in particular in mind?

[He's quiet for a minute before he speaks again. His voice is low.] They can't give me what they've promised. It's not possible.

[He's silent as well, clearly he's not as convicted as he's trying to sound]
I'm sure of it. And if they did, it would be wrong, all wrong, not really what we want. Like what happened at Christmas.
As for threats, well, that's why I'm trying to keep you lot safe.

I'll go look for her. I've business to attend to at any rate, two birds with one stone. When I locate her, shall we meet at your house?

Though I have an idea about what sort of business it is.

I don't... I can't see her get hurt. Not again.
